F1 2013 Testing: Week 2 Barcelona

You mean like Brawn did in 2009? every team goes their own way.

I'm not saying that doing something different is a bad move, I'm saying specifically that Mercedes doing something different is a bad move. They have been very open about the fact they have been on the back foot for a while. They also tried the DDRS last year and lost development time chasing a dead end.

Mercedes need to consolidate their efforts into making a solid foundation on which to build. Once you have that, you add in trick new experimental bits.

Also just spotted this in the Autosport feed

I expect that will be enough for them to not race then in Australia.
Yeah, I get that impression as well. Shame, though I still think its a damn good car.

The fact that Bottas has got in it and doing good times (all be it on softs) is a clear indication that the car is far better and easier to driver than last year. reading Pastors comments as well gives me a massive hard on for Williams this year. :D

Unless Ferrari, RBR, Lotus and Mclaren are sandbagging the Merc looks competitive on the basis of the times so far.

Everything this year is an evolution, so Merc prob have the easiest time in making gains because they were that bit further behind. Noob gains :)

Rosberg said the car feels much better than last year but I doubt they are that much improved :p

his pre season quotes are always interesting.

It's not his fault though he has never had a proper top car so doesn't know how good they should feel.

you would think so but you could say the same every other year since brawn.

2010 Mercedes GP 214 points (4th in constructors)
2011 Mercedes 165 points (4th in constructors)
2012 Mercedes 142 points (5th in constructors)

slowly losing their part of the pie each year and quickly falling behind the top 3 teams

If Lewis was at Mclaren this year lots of people would be looking at the track times today and having a go at him\team.

People would be having a go at Lewis over his times today, because he's second fastest, faster than the Mclaren and he's on hards vs Perez on the softs? You would have a go at him for effectively being the fastest guy out on the track? Vettel did a soft tyre run, and seemingly the shortest run of everyone so fuel advantage, and Hamilton is well within a second on the slowest tyre and more fuel?

Perez gone top with a 1m21.818s on softs.

That's faster than any time at testing last year in Barcelona, but then that's to be expected.

Vettel's race run is producing interesting data. His first lap was a 1:29.6, which suggests fastest time this a.m. was flat out low fuel.

First two stints on soft tyres only 17 laps in total and very high degradation - eg 29.6, 31.2, 31.6, 31.8, 32.8, 34.1, pit.

Re fastest laps, that backs up Gary Anderson's theory that, at this stage, the Red Bull is not that quick
Interesting.
