We still don't know if all the teams will make it to next season either.

I will try to keep this thread up to date as and when information is available.

Oh wow Horner on TV confirming Vet is off to ferrari. Vet informed them last night.

Which means Alonso must be off as well. I can't see him wanting to be paired together.

And kvyat confirmed second rbr seat. Which makes it hard to belive they made that choice in less than 24 hours. So they must had been told sooner than last night.

Which means Alonso to mclaren? Ferrari saying the music between them has stopped.

So a year when silly season delivers.

Wonder who Torro Rosso will get, surly they won't pick two brand new drivers.

Alonso hasn't seemingly confirmed anything. It's beginning to look like Alonso was around saying he wants out, asking to go anywhere at which point Ferrari realised they needed a driver so went out and got Vettel. Red Bull wet with Kyvat when clearly Alonso's people had been talking about a swap deal, so they for me actively turned down signing Alonso. He'd want higher wages than Vettel is own however Red Bull will be down on winnings this season and in the near future there is no certainty they'll be close next year either. Financially committing to an ageing and extremely high wage wanting driver isn't the best combination.

Could we see some even bigger moves to come, with Newey effectively stepping away from the team and Vettel leaving, it's somewhat the end of an era AND Ferrari don't have a genuine team principle, someone with huge experience. Could we see Ferrari poach Horner next?

Alonso will be absolutely gutted frankly, begging for a way out of Ferrari they go around him, seal a new driver and RBR turn him down when that would be a huge huge huge seat for him. Even if he gets the Mclaren seat now it will clearly be after he lost out on the clearly better chance of a title RBR seat, Mclaren are a distant second although it's a pretty big question mark over how the RBR car will do in the next few years without Newey as involved. I don't think Mclaren will overhaul them for a couple years and Newey will probably still be heavily involved in the design of a new car but probably less involved throughout the season in continual updates done through the season.

He hasn't conformed anything. But Ferrari have confirmed that the relationship has broken down. Which must mean with Vet signing. He is off and we all know Mclaren want him and is basically the only seat.

That's how he did it. Marko confirming a get out clause in Vets contract. Assuredly much like Alonso. If they aren't at the front he can leave.

I wouldn't say the only seat, but it might be his last option left.

It's not odd, I think I was the only guy on here talking about Hamilton's move as simply about change, hoping the car would be good but mostly just being unhappy in the team he was in and needing to be anywhere else. By that measure I can understand Vettel and Alonso wanting out.

What I don't get is Ferrari wanting Vettel. Yes he's a 4 time world champion and yes he's not terrible but he's been shown up by a younger and vastly less experienced driver. It's been more and more clear as the year has gone on and on that Vettel isn't a truly top driver so giving him that kind of wage/deal seems nuts to me.

There is also the issue of car style. Vettel only did well on a car which was absolutely stuck to the ground with uber downforce beyond anything any other car had. The Red Bull in this new style with less downforce and more torque has made Vettel look much less good but Ferrari have built a car for Alonso that is a kart. It's all over the place and absolutely needs man handling around the track. Kimi is doing poorly because the car is set up to be thrown into corners and driven the pants off as Alonso likes, I think the Ferrari will suit Vettel even worse than the current Red Bull.

Why the **** are sky team so dumb. They've discussed several times this year Alonsos get out clause, now they seem to have totally forgotten about it.

Yep and Ferrari has a terrible rear end which is where Vet is struggling.

It sucks to be JEV right now! He's booted out of Toro Rosso and immediately a RBR seat comes up and they put Kyvat in it who he's beaten over the season!

Discussing a possible get out clause doesn't mean there IS a get out clause. The clause may have a cost associated with it still if it exists. It could be if Ferrari are in the top 2 or 3 then a team would have to buy out his contract in full and if Ferrari are below this threshold that the cost is still there but reduced to 50% or something.

i remember (although memory isn't brilliant) that ferrari conformed a total get out clause if he wasn't top 3.

I'm surprised that they are surprised a big name driver left for Ferrari and that it was Vettel frankly. Alonso leaving has been on the cards for a couple of weeks, if Kimi was kicking ass then Ferrari could have considered a younger driver, even Bianchi, but with Kimi sucking this year they needed an experienced driver and Vettel is the best left frankly.

Drivers don't willingly walk out of a title capable car, there is 0% chance Hamilton or Rosberg would actively choose to leave that Mercedes so that rules both of them out. Who else to Ferrari get in, Massa, nope, Button, nope, Ricciardo....possibly but he's got plenty of time and is the best driver at the no.2 team this year. If Vettel wasn't losing quite badly to Ricciardo then Vettel wouldn't be leaving. Worst thing to happen to Vettel, Webber leaving, made him look so much better than he is.

WHo else were Ferrari going to throw money at to replace Alonso, extremely limited options and Vettel becomes the most obvious. I think it's a bad move but this is a bad time for Ferrari to lose a top driver because there just aren't that many top drivers around(that they haven't already got or had before).

Has Bianchi done any FP1 sessions at Ferrari this year(or maybe tests last year?). I would have thought that was an obvious thing to do after he'd looked pretty fast in a crap car. Give him an FP1 session and see if he's actually fast in a much better car. Could be Bianchi has an epic FP1 and shows he can maybe do a Ricciardo.

As a second driver I could see button going to Ferrari, but it means paying kimi off again, which makes it a slim chance,
Button is a good solid second driver. Especially with a team restructure.

Oh god Horner still with his tongue up his rear pipe.

Totally agree with ted, they don't need to decide who to get rid off, Alonso is gone and signed a new contract, just no official announcement yet.

Who cares about the past when you are fighting for titles and money.

Hmmm, if the problem is supposedly the relationship between Alonso and the team principle, a team principle who isn't particularly experienced then a solution to that would be get in a proper team principle just as Red Bull is coming to the end of an era and Horner's bestest mate is basically moving on from the F1 side of the company.

Alonso to stay with Horner signed as a way to get Alonso to stay, Kimi to Mclaren :p

I'm going to hate having to cheer for Vettel next season because he's a Ferrari driver.

Hugely overrated driver who is also a cry baby and a very dislikeable person in F1 from what I have seen of him.

He is not even half the driver Alonso is I'm gutted to see Alonso leave.
