F1 2018

I picked this up in a sale, only played 2010 (the first one?) and 2013. I am absolutely loving this iteration. I chose williams as my starting team. Just finished China which was a fun race.

The only issue is the AI difficulty, I'm using a pad but even at 60 (%?) difficulty, I'm landing podiums, 2 1st's and a 2nd so far. And you can't adjust this during a race weekend. I'm going to push it up to 100% after the next race weekend as I missed the window it seems... Not sure exactly when you can change it. My only fear is now that I've won and will likely win another weekend, will my team start getting annoyed at me for not having podiums and instead ending up in the low teens at best which is where Williams belongs?

Furthermore, I skipped the practice goals and ultimately, lost rep with Williams, seems a bit daft... But oh well, takes 20 mins to run through them. Just wish you could remove them but then again, I guess you'll not have any development points.

Oh, and are there rewards for not using assists? The only things I have on are traction control and anti lock breaks as those are hard to control with gamepad triggers. Everything else is off (racing line, braking assist etc etc).

You can change the difficulty between race weekends, have to press options on the loading screen.

I think you’ll be fine with regards to rep as goals are already set.

So after a race and I click advance to the next weekend, smash the option button to change difficulty? Utterly daft system, being that it's on SSD it loads very quickly lol. Thank though.

Something like this might help you set the difficulty.

I think there’s better explanations around but this was the first link I came across and I’m lazy :p

I'm increasing mine every race, the last race I finished in front of my team mate by half a lap (100% distance).

Going to push it a little further.

Not sure how that relates to career mode but should give you something to start with :)

The jump from one “level” (beginner/novice/expert etc.) is quite a jump if I remember correctly

I've set the difficulty another way:
https://www.reddit.com/r/F1Game/comments/6xljf2/a_useful_method_to_find_your_ideal_qualifying_and/

Then I'm increasing a little every time because I'm just getting more used to the car etc.

I didn't go that indepth, I simply went into a custom grand prix and added a bunch of 5 lap races, and adjusted until I was essentially battling around my team mate. I've found 85-90 is the ideal range. 85 putting me a few spots ahead of him and 90 being a little tougher. I'll stick to 85 for the moment.

One thing I did notice, qualifying was a lot more harsher than the race, my team mate at 85 was pulling 3 seconds ahead of me, so I really had to step it up a notch and land in some perfect laps, if I didn't, I kissed that sweet grid position goodbye.

I've been dabbling in this on and off, one change I made which made a huge difference for me (playing on controller) is manual gears. My times and laps are MUCH cleaner and way more consistent. Anyone else playing with the controller, I'd strongly suggest the same, it allows you control over gear for the corner making turning a lot more consistent

I struggled with manual gears on a controller due to the amount of gear changes needed in quick succession but might try it again
