F1 2019

Nope, nor virtual mirror. It's just the usual yearly churn with a half-assed F2 scripted career tacked on.

Except every review saying its the best yet. We'll see I guess. Lack of mouse support and a virtual mirror are hardly deal breakers.

The thing I am happiest about is this -

The AI are amazing on the higher difficulties on 2019, especially when defending positions. They don't just stick to 1 line like previous games. Even watching them all battle each other, all taking differing lines, is so much fun.

Having watched some gameplay videos it is great to see the AI moving about.

had around 3hrs on it tonight and here's my initial thoughts

Graphics - not much difference, still terrible aa. runs great tho just whacked everything on maximum 4k and locked 60 for me.

ffb - very good indeed, very detailed and can feel what the tires are doing

f2 cars - awesome.....better than the f1 cars for me

sound - seems fine

ai - pretty good, best ive seen...….tho not saying much

looking forward to doing a season but my god its hard to get back into flat screen racing after vr.

How are you able to play it already so soon? i thought its out on friday?

I haven't played an F1 game since one of the first Codemasters games so I don't have a reference to if or how much better 2019 is than previous years. However in the short time I played it last night, I really enjoyed it. The AI are a real challenge - some of it is probably me not being used to F1 games but I found them to be fast (level at 80/100) and they take some good lines to defend or attempt to overtake.

Graphics look good though only tried dry racing for now but I do want to try a wet race to see how it feels and looks. The only odd thing graphically I found was the game seemed to default to 1080p rather than 1440p. It was just an option change and everything runs fine at 1440p, I was just surprised it didn't default to the native screen res.

FFB - A mixed bag for me for now. I didn't spend too long messing with the settings so I'm happy to accept my issues may be fixed with a little more fiddling. FFB though overall was good, you can feel the weight of the car and what is going on. I do also like the enhanced understeer feel, some games seem to have little or no ffb change when understeering. My only complaint is the vibration that comes with driving at high speed, running a Logitech wheel the clicks and clunks the come with vibration are annoying. I managed to turn them down but it means I also lost the vibration of running over kerbs.

Still overall, enjoying this so far and looking forward to starting a full season.

Am I missing something with the start procedure?

In the little video tutorial in game, it says hold gear up to engage the clutch - the video shows the car in first gear. You then release the button when the lights go green. I’m on a wheel but pulling the up paddle engages the clutch but leaves me in neutral. So when the lights go green I have to release the paddle and then click it a second time so engage first. Even using my clutch pedal as a clutch I can’t engage first gear before the lights go green.

So is the F2 actual racing or situations where you either let your team mate by or catch and pass ?

I haven’t started the career yet but from a couple youtube videos, they are a little of both. For example, I think one gives you the scenario that you have your front wing damaged and you have to drive the last few laps without losing too much time.

I don’t think there are any pass of fail conditions though. I think it is just to set up a rivalry for when you move in to F1.

I was in hope of a full F2 season but as that seems not to be a thing I just dont think it's worth the money

Yeh the f2 bit in career mode is poor, just a couple on silly half races with nonsense scenarios.

But you can obviously do a full season of f2 in the grand prix bit but but not career.

F2 cars are very good but if you want the full season in career its probably been held back for next year.

i just tried the game and am on it now :/ :) i have the anniversary edition which i think doesn't give early access.
