F1 2023 - Pre Season Testing

So, the RB19 looks almost the same as least season, just a bit more dramatic.

Seems all the teams have stuck to evolving their existing concepts.

I think all the cars look better than last year. Just a bit crisper and cleaner and more refined looking.

Those little horns on the AT remind me of the BMW-Sauber from years back.

So with Drugovich stopping, the flow-vis paint and Valtteri watching from the pit wall, that's three crossed off the bingo already.

just tuned in after not seeing any of the car launches, this weight saving issue is getting a bit sad on the livery front, how long till we end up with 20 full carbon fibre colour cars with a few sponsor logos plastered on?

The Mercedes is definitely the best looking car this season.
It looks like they've developed the most from last years car. Those hefty shoulders and the Ferrari style dishes were mostly hidden during the at launch. But from the angles they've released this morning they're a lot more pronounced.

Is the Ferrari S-Duct a potential season winner? Can't see any other team being able to copy it quickly.

Clear signs of porpoising for Ferrari and Alpine, others look okay.

They really need to revise these dire suspension rules. All the cars are too stiff.

McLaren livery worst of the bunch. Just looks pants.

It's not to do with rules over suspension. The teams want the cars to sit low to the track surface to get as much ground effect as possible. Going that low means the car has to be incredibly stiffly sprung to not bottom out. It's the aero rules leading the problem.

They also massively and unnecessarily restricted the construction of the suspension in last year's rules changes. Without that, they'd be much more able to make cars that both ride low and can ride bumps.

It might be genius though. They're sitting behind the halo, so there's already drag there. Just not sure what purpose they serve. Need someone who knows about airflow to analyse it.

If you're taking about the weird "wing pod" things fore and above the real sidepods, they're there to comply with the rules about the positioning and design of the sidepods. Kyle Engineering on YT has a good video explaining it from last year.

I just feel with all the testing stuff it's kind of.... wake me up when the first quali is on. You'll never truly know the potential of each car until then.

It's always a pointless endeavour from a timing/performance perspective as a viewer but it's still interesting seeing the cars in the first even remotely close form they'll race in and watching some of the car behaviour, reliability etc.

I think he means the higher bit bit the airbox, where the Halo goes back either side of the drivers head, going back from there the outer bits are raised and the inner bit has a Ferrari-esque 'trough', looks a bit weird, especially from that aerial view posted by Mesai
