F1 Sky v BBC Thoughts ?

BBC seems a more polished production to me, but is done by a bunch of clowns.

Sky have the better talent but their show isn't quite right yet, the formula needs tweaking a little.

So you are criticising Sky for not being technical enough, but aren't bothered about the lack of tech on the Beeb as you use Scarbs anyway?

Yes, because the BBC don't pretend to be technical and do the entertainment side of things much better than Sky.

The BBC are clearly going for the Top Gear approach and are quite open about it.

Sky try to go for a more technical approach but fail and when they do try and do the entertainment, they don't do it as well as the BBC.

If Sky got full rights, they would start to dumb it down, they have to in order to keep the audience. BBC dont have the most in depth technical side but offer a better viewing experience, trying to make boring races more exciting. The absolute purists seem to like Sky more given the coverage, but that is because they are competing, if they weren't, it would go to pot. I dont think i have watched any pre or post race Sky for those reasons, plus the team are very dry and dont have fun with it, it is too serious.

BBC Sport in general seems to have fallen in love with montages over the last few years. I didn't mind a couple of well done sequences every race (one before, one after, say), but now the majority of the build-up consists of overly portentous or whizz-bang-wow minute-long sections, rather than, you know, actual stuff. It's an obvious way to fill up space, and I'm really starting to find them tiresome.

I've actually quite warmed to Gary Anderson now though. :o

Gary Anderson's Q1/2 cut off time predictions are the most accurate I've seen, and really helps to keep track of what drivers are in trouble.
Agreed, I have a feeling more people will slowly warm to Anderson as time goes on.

What's the main anchors name on sky? Simon?

Anyway, he annoys me with his wooden personality and smoker's teeth. Oh and Damon Hill gets more camp each time they cut to him. I half expect that they'll cut to him pre-Abu Dabi and he'll bumming Louis Spence.

If both have full coverage I tend to prefer the BBC coverage. Particularly like DC.

Would pick the Sky full coverage over the Italian Highlights every single time though.

With Sky you only seem to see the corporate side of the interviewee's. Whereas they open up a lot more for the BBC crew.

They haven't quite found there feet with the audience.

Definitely. But I think part of that is Jake's very casual matey approach and maybe DC too as he still seems to have a lot of presence in the paddock and everyone knows him. The Sky people seem a bit more formal.

While obviosly it isnt a one man team, with Martin in the Sky team now, Im surprised its such a big difference

Maybe its also that majority of the BBC team are pretty well known for different reasons throughout the paddock, but I wonder if anyone apart from MB is that well known (obviously this should change in time, if Sky keep it going)

Well I quite like Jake so it wasn't that what put me off the BBC coverage the first & main thing is having to wait 12 minutes to actually see the cars when it was an abbreviated highlights show anyway, Unforgivable when that 12 minutes was full of ***** montages & Eddie ******** Jordans **** ideas/theorys. + :p

Didn't want to just create a thread & run. ;)

DC should stop being polite about it & just tell Eddie ******* Jordan to shut the **** up, Now that would be entertainment. Yes Eddie may know more than me & was there & all that **** but he is still an irritating little gob *****. Seeings as I pay my TV license which funds his Ridiculous shirts I have the right to say Eddie ******* Jordan **** Off you ****.

Breathe. :p

Tbh I think I prefer BBC, i dunno why, think sky's bits other than the race aren't that good. Exceptthat bit with aAnthony Davidson which is very nice. That girl is rubbish tho.

I do find the way Croft says fettel annoying though!

The guy who does the predictions for qualifying times on BBC is good as is James Allen.

I guess I think the BBC coverage is more rounded and considering sky have all the time in the world I don'tthink there is much ppost race coverage

Quite a dedicated fan, read about the f1 over the winter etc, team supporter more than sport supporter or driver.

I massively prefer Sky's coverage. Although, the Beige Bint should go away. As should Simon Lazenby. He's got better, but is still pretty useless.

Get Crofty up on the Skypad with Ant and give Ted the whole F1 Show and cover more than just the banal... The technical bits with the virtual car are great.

Crofty and Ant during the FP sessions are great, as they always were. Crofty and Brundle work really well together too.

Oh, and the HD image is superb and the 5.1 a cool extra too.

Do I really need to say how I rank as a F1 viewer? ;)
