F1 Testing 2012 - Week 1, Jerez

Not sure about high pressure, but it certainly smoothed it out. Rather than air hitting a brick wall, its just channeled through hole and exits in cockpit.

i bet sparky is sitting there smugly watching all our speculation on the vents while knowing exactly what its for himself :p

Speculations half the fun. Throw ideas around, keep us guessing.
I actually think even if he could tell us, it would ruin part of the exitment. Even things like scarabs are only best well educated guesses.

Put it this way, there were things on the car last year that McLaren were still guessing at in Brazil and have been developed further. No offence to Scarb fans but, he just scrapes the surface of what actually goes on.

No - even if the slot wasn't a vent and didn't carry on through to the cockpit (i.e. was just a pure inch deep slot with the blanked off back), it would still be more aerodynamic than a normal humpy nose.

That was my understanding anyway...

No doubt, but there probably things on the Force India and most other cars that RBR would have no idea about or be guessing about too. ;)

This is a good point, I always get the feeling people think that 'analysts' (even ones as good as Scarbs) have a full understanding of what is actually going on.. it's just impossible..

In the same way that obviously Redbull will be trying to constantly analyse and suss out what all the other teams innovations are, as McLaren/Ferrari and all the others will be, but they will always be left guessing with lots of games being played and the truly innovative stuff largely hidden well out the way.. The point being that when people say "Oh x should just copy y".. it's just not really feasible at all..

Christ another non year for ferrari, they are already talking of struggling with the car. I was hoping they would at least be able to let alonso take the fight to vettel semi equally this year :(

Still a small area of concern is the wind tunnel as well.

LOL really read the quotes, I would imagine every single team has room for improvement, its 4 days into testing.

Er you do realize even the headline is a quote

I see you edited that out when you noticed yourself.

It's that they are struggling to make the car handle consistently that's the most worrying.

It's all new to them a massive change of direction of what they know, they will get there no need to press the panic button after 3 days and write it off :)
