F1 Testing 2012 - Week 1, Jerez

Great, thanks for that.
What is scarabs background and job? And why does he appear to be small fry? He should be snapped up by one of the big tv broadcasters or magazines.

He's just an F1 journo as far as I know - but a part time one who has a full time job as well. He does regularly appear in a number of the online webcasts in interviews about the techie side of F1, but I think his level of detail is too great for the 6,000,000 average Joe Public who tune into the BBC for races. Perhaps he likes being "small fry"?

The Mercedes front F-duct allegedly works based off of air pressure at the front of the wing.

so did their rear F-duct, after the season they discovered why schumacher had multiple issues with the rear f-duct, it was because of his helmet shape beeing different from rosbergs lol

One of the things that keeps me hooked on F1 :)

Yep love the tech side, it's what sets it apart. Even though it's been massively Erroded over the years :(.

Which is why I really hope the electric series gets enough intrest. Rules will hopefully be much slacker so they can progress the technologies.

Yep :) It'd be even better if a lot of it wasn't banned before being able to be put to the test :D

Look the same shape to me

Even when all costs means being stripped of all your points for that season and losing 2nd in the WDC?

(I still bear a grudge after Adelaide '94. I was 10 years old watching it live, and cried when Hill had to pull off with a bend suspension arm. Damon has always been a double champion in my books)

Yep just like Senna, who many idolise, and his incident was pre-meditated

In the heat of the moment - sure why not do what Schumacher did?

Because deliberately crashing into someone is dangerous, has the potential to be deadly, and would get you a monumental telling off or banning at a novice club racing level - let alone at Formula 1 level. F1 should be the pinnacle of motorsport with drivers who set an example, not banger racing.

Look at how Kyle Busch has been treated in NASCAR as a result of his deliberate crashing last year - he was banned temporarily, fined a large sum of money, then put on a years probation.

"In the heat of the moment", is the key phrase here.

I don't think anybody would want to win under those dubious circumstances, but when the incident is happening (and it usually takes only a few seconds), the mind has a funny way of reacting and doing things that makes you wonder, "Why on Earth did I do that...what was I thinking?"

I think that MSc had one of those moments in 1997 and in the cold light of day regretted what he did. However, I'm sure, if it happened all over again, in the heat of the moment, he would do exactly the same thing.

Now, what Senna did in Japan...that was pre-meditated and planned. I don't think he ever regretted what he did. In his mind, he was right to do what he did and made it clear before the race started what would happen if Prost attempted to pass him.

Hey ho...back on topic.

*2011 car

I have to say that I am worried about Ferrari. RBR seem to have speed AND reliability on their side. I am confident that Ferrari will eventually have the speed, but I am unsure about the reliability.

If I were a betting man, I would bet my house on Vettel to win the title this year. After what Webber did yesterday, I firmly believe that RBR once again have the fastest car and I do not believe Alonso is good enough to beat Vettel, while Vettel is in a car which is so much faster than Alonso's.

I know its early days, but the signs are ominous.

Mercedes are the only leading team left to unveil their new car, so unless they do a Brawn '09 (which is a very rare thing to happen), RBR are looking good.

Can't help think that Lotus are trying to impress sponsors with their times, nice to see McLaren close to RBR, I hope the times are representative

Another day and another chunk of time off the quickest 2012 lap time:

They had a hydraulic leak today, hardly a major drama for any team.
