F1 Testing 2012 - Week 2, Barcelona

Webber says RB need to improve before Australia, you keep day dreaming though :)

for him sure bet it suits vettel just fine.....

anyway face the facts ferrari are behind everyone else in testing so far.

it wouldnt suprise me if they are still struggling with setup issues in aus and its not like they are the only team with a very different car from last year

testing is testing lap times are irelevant apart from monitoring tyre drop off but you can visually see which cars look good and which dont

Well, it is highly unlikely that a driver is ever going to say, "Yep...everything is fine. We have the best car by miles. We can all sit back and relax".

The normal mantra, even when your team/car is dominating is: "We have a decent car but we must keep pushing and working hard. We need to keep improving this car otherwise the rest of the field may pass us".

From what I have seen so far, RBR are having their most trouble free Winter testing program, ever. This does not bode well for the rest of the field.

My only hope is that Ferrari somehow begin to understand their car and that by race 3-5, begin to match or beat RBR's pace. Then we are going to have a battle on our hands.

...and I say Ferrari, because their car seems to be the most radical. I think it is going to be difficult to drive, but potentially, with the right setup and with the right driver, it will (potentially) be able to go faster than the RBR.

I'm also hoping that perhaps McLaren might have a car which could be fast.

At this point, all I want is for some team to step up and go toe-to-toe with RBR. Over the last couple of seasons, Vettel has had it a little too easy (though his execution last year, was faultless).

webber meant reliability not pace, theres another interview where he says weve got a few plates spinning but thats how newey likes to keep it at this stage

didnt they have a gearbox failure today?

Minor niggles. It's testing. Things are supposed to be tested to their limit.
If you go back over the last few years, I believe that this is RBR's most trouble free Winter so far.

2 years ago, if memory serves me correct, they didnt even make the first test.

Arknor. Remember that Vettel is usually about 2-4 tenths of a second faster than Webber, per lap, when he needs to be. So, lets not get carried away just yet.

It would be great to see Vettel under some pressure when the season starts. IMO Vettel has had it way too easy and I don't particularly want to see him win his 3rd title without being pushed to the limit.

lol posted that as a joke :D

merc seem quietly confident they have a fast car though maybe not redbull quick but quick enough for there goals this season

anywya be interesting to see what rbrs final exhaust solution does for them and mclaren have one coming to acording to scarbs

James,

I know its quite early, but whom do you think are in top 3 at the moment. Do you think Ferrari can turn it around before Australian GP?

Not before then, no. Looks like Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes at the moment

Ferrari were quite clear even before launch that with such a new car then the fans should not expect much in times until they go to the final test, and they are still saying the same thing. Most Ferrari fans are comfortable with that and if it makes others think they are out of the picture then so be it :D

I think once we see some qually simulations at the final test next week, we'll get a clearer idea of the rough positions of the teams imo.
