F1 Testing 2014: Week 1 Jerez

Ted lol they used to go around the hairpin in 1st or 2nd now they do the same hairpin in 4th or 5th so not easier.

Actually thats exactly WHY its a lot easier - being able to carry more speed around any given corner proves its easier for the driver

Hmmmmmm what? that rumour got quashed seasons ago. Please keep up :)

Not exactly the most gentle even allowing for Merc's tendency

No. They will be doing a similar speed.

The reason they are in a higher gear is so not to spin up the rears when getting back on the power. The turbo engines have more torque, if they took the corner in a low gear then went bang on the power they'd end up spinning like a figure skater.

There around 10 seconds off 2013 pace, they are not carrying more speed yet.

They are in 4th where they would have previously been in 2nd because they have 8 gears over 7, and much more low to mid range torque. The new units are a very different thing to drive.

5.5 seconds is far less than a 10 second difference going by fastest testing times this year and last (1:17.8 from massa, and I believe a 1:23.2 from magnusson) considering the engines last year were the known factor and would have been much less conservatively run this is a good sign that single lap pace is hopefully not going to be a million miles away from last year.

Race pace is being predicted at around 3-4 seconds per lap down going by a number of different articles and hear say from the different marques. If its 3 seconds a lap down with more exciting raining I can live with that. Also we could only hope that with further development through the year for both engines and cars this year we may just see times closing back in on last years pace. Maybe with the conservative pirelli rubber this year, race times will balance out. 1-2 less pitstops per race and by the end of the season that could mean faster races then last year!

Just catching up through a few photos. I imagine that these, and better, have already been posted elsewhere by now, but enjoy nonetheless:

It is quite amusing that Marussia probably have the best looking car this year :p

The Force India would be a great looking car if it weren't for the massive black dong on the end of it.

The McLaren is a far nicer car in my eyes. Looks much better on track from the pictures i've seen.

To be honest i wouldn't put the Marussia ahead of the Mercedes, or Red Bull either. All they've done is managed to hide the nose well with the paint scheme (from some angles anyway).

The front of the McLaren looks awful.

Compared to the rest i think it looks the best, especially from the front wheels back. The Marussia that everyone seems to think is the best looking car doesn't look as good from most angles. It's just that the first few pictures made it look like the nose was hidden due to being black and the lighting.
