F1 Testing 2015: Week 1 Jerez

Not that I can see. Most likely far too costly for such a small audience (of us losers!)

It's also so stupid, they have spare channels and internet streaming. A camera down the pit straights with sound is all they need, in this day and age stupid cheap. Don't need to even do it on tv though again loads of channels and mostly repeated guff on most channels, hardly a big deal. The issue is corporate idiots don't think about adding bonus content like that, they think everything has to be a massive deal so to do testing they need to fly out a commentary team, 5 cameras and do segments, have a producer and graphics team on site, etc. As with most things it's tv people over thinking the situation.

Just a camera that caught people going fast down the start finish straight, caught people going in and out and the live timing on the screen would be way more information than they currently give out and all doable on a live stream for next to no money.

Being able to see who is out there, how fast they are going, how many laps they are doing and getting to hear the various engines as they go past would be great. Not going to sit there and watch all day but could periodically check in and see how it's going.

It's also so stupid

Like the 'red button' open cameras you sometimes get on sporting events. I think they did that on some of the Olympics. That still requires the infrastructure there in the first place I suppose, which would always be far more complex and costly than we would expect.
You'd need staff there to set up the cameras and monitor the live feed etc. It's never quite that simple, sadly.

At least we have Ted there covering things - maybe someone can Tweet Ted to ask why no live (even static) coverage?

Seriously, half the women in the world seem to get a laptop, a hd camera and put themselves on a live stream with their bits out, but Sky can't? So Sky, get a role of duck tape a decent laptop and strap the thing to the grid lights/bridge part and aim it down at the track, job done.

Seriously though, they really would be offering us something with a simply decent quality web cam feed and that really is painfully cheap to sort out. they already have live streaming in place as a service so they have the capacity and ability, the track obviously has working internet connections and Sky probably have a decent amount of equipment there anyway.

No one is asking for a full production show which would cost money and need multiple people, but taking a laptop and camera, and a spare couple of laptops just in case is trivial in costs for the kind of money Sky put into F1 production over the year.

""It sounds as though the McLaren is running limited power - the engine note has a strange stutter on full throttle at the end of the straight."

I hope Williams start to the season is good.

makes sense, they're testing everything on track so nice and easy is the mantra.

Ominous signs from Mercedes already. They look fast, and they're already able to bang in a huge number of laps on day 1 of this year's testing.

Nothing worth judging yet from McLaren. I just hope they can get through their test programme successfully this test; I want to see them somewhere near the sharp end.

Not unsurprising from Merc, such a big lead last year they just needed to refine the car, compared to others having to make big changes and two with new engines.

Very long monkey seat on Merc, pic on Sky, on phone so hard to link quickly.

A first timed lap from the McLaren-Honda...but it's in the 1min40s, and thus almost twenty seconds off the pace of the Mercedes. Still, at least it's running - which is more than can be said of the majority of the field this time last year when they tried out their V6 engines for the first time.
