F1 Testing 2015: Week 1 Jerez

^Brilliant :D

Horner says the livery will be different in Melbourne which is no surprise, but will be "even stronger. It's great to do something different. Wait and see..."

It's dazzle camouflage. They're using it to hide something about the car design, which knowing Red Bull will be something illegal. I know they've got an S-duct - are those in or out?

Are Mclaren-Honda expecting to win the world title this year? The answer is no, not one employee will tell you that they are... so I don't see why your point is valid,

I have no idea how your post is valid or a counter to my post so why you're questioning my post's validity I really don't know.

For the Merc engine to be good or perform well it needs to be tested, tweaked, improved upon and then developed, so does the Honda. Nothing I stated, nothing in my post at all is relevant or talking about competing this season. I was the first person saying they have effectively zero chance this year while you and many others claimed that wasn't true. With multiple posters talking about how they've had a year to develop since finding out how the other engines were made and how that is a huge advantage.

The more data and the more experience the higher the chance you have of working out the next best move. The more fixes they have for this engine, the more running they will do this year, the more data they get, the better engine they get.

I literally have no idea what your post is about, I never mentioned winning or anything else, I'm the one, not you, who kept pointing out that changes to Mclaren during last year and a new aero guy, new engine will NOT give results in the first year. I was the one talking about the 3 years it took Merc to rebuild. In fact I've said that consistently as the reason why I don't think Mclaren will be close this year. So saying my post isn't valid based off things I didn't remotely hint at then telling me why Mclaren won't compete this year based off the reasoning I have been talking about on this forum for the past year is ridiculous ridiculous.

However, a good 2016 engine will be directly linked to how well Honda/Mclaren develop the car and good development requires GREAT testing. Not just test days but 20 race weekends throughout the year. The more testing the better. Mercedes ran 4 teams with 2 cars throughout an entire season. Mclaren/Honda will simply come up VERY short in comparison. The lack of a second team helping development on that engine will almost certainly hurt development.

I want one... though the wing mirrors look a bit daft. Mclaren are so dumb, even an almost completely red ferrari didn't have big sticking out red wing mirrors :p

Maldonado red flag stopped things for a bit but seems he stopped near the pit entrance anyway and was just pushed into the pitlane, bit of rain stopped people for a while.

Current laps are
Merc 91
Ferrari 63
TR 58
Sauber 57
Williams 52
Lotus 37
RBR 18 (still without a front wing?)
Mclaren 5

Merc 180
Ferrari 120
Renault 76
Honda 5

Another problem for Honda is they seemingly(different people have reported it using slightly different wording) have new/different parts to put on the engine for both the second and third test but like various wing designs, it's hard to know if something is better, either more efficient or giving more power without being able to compare. Lets say the turbo changes slightly for test two and it looks great on track because they get a few laps under it, but really the one they are using today is actually better in the real world, they just might not have any real world running to know it's better.

Most teams will have tweaks for the next test to a lot of aero and mechanical parts but being able to compare them to what was on before is pretty crucial... worse, then you went the wrong way but that is important to know. Better, going the right way, again crucial to know.

Mercedes have had a part fail responsible for the water leak.
Hamilton luck struck again, he's done for the day.

15:29 Verstappen decides he's had enough of the rain and dives into the pits. His 1m42s flying lap was still 12s faster than the recalcitrant McLaren-Honda has been round Jerez today...

ouch

15:15 @WilliamsRacing: "It's raining so @ValtteriBottas has jumped out. Must be the @MercedesAMGF1 water leak"

15:20 @MercedesAMGF1: "@WilliamsRacing @ValtteriBottas We may have underestimated the scale of leakage..."

:p

It was Rosberg :eek::D

It was most likely, simple because the car has done what 220ish laps before failing. Not a bad thing, it's what testing is for, seeing which bits fail first, working out why, improving it, then finding the next thing that breaks. But when you're at the point that the car can go around and do 220 laps before something breaks and it's minor you're in pretty good territory.

Final count appears to be

Current laps are
Merc 91
Ferrari 89
Sauber 88
TR 73
Williams 61
Lotus 41
RBR 18
Mclaren 6

Merc 193
Ferrari 177
Renault 91
Honda 6

Total across 2 days
Merc 423
Ferrari 300
Renault 172
Honda 12

Not sure who should be more embarrassed today, Mclaren, Kvyat or RBR. Mclaren/Honda not running well would be completely understandable being a new engine, but they keep tweeting crap or doing interviews telling everyone "we've found the problem and fixed it, we expect to do well tomorrow" while talking about how awesome their car is for being tightly packaged..... like it's new idea they came up with or something while the other top teams are as tightly or more tightly packaged. Stop boasting that after years you finally just copied Red Bull's aero design, that isn't anything to be proud of and stop claiming you've fixed everything before actually knowing you've fixed it and looking like a bunch of idiots.

Merc/Williams/other teams are being jokey on twitter, that is fine, announce when you go out, announce mile stones, but don't post a picture of your own car and call it impressive.. like a girl posting her pic and telling everyone how hot she is, it's arrogant and weird. Even posting it and asking what the fans think would be less arrogant than actually proclaiming it impressive yourself. Honda/Mclaren are being embarrassing on twitter and making the car failure look even worse than it is.

Kvyat, get the call up to red bull, big deal, break the nose on the installation lap and end up pretty much wasting a full day.... not good, not good at all.

RBR... bring a single nose to a test when you half expect things to break, not just a nose but it's perfectly easy for a new brake system to fail and end up with a car hitting something. Not being ready for a nose to break and wasting an entire day is on RBR as much as Kvyat.

Another good day at the test today. Cooler than yesterday, with virtually no sun at all. There were a few spots of rain in the afternoon but then the heavens looked like they were about to open (they did!) so we left with about 45 minutes remaining.

It didn't feel like there was as much running today, and there were a few periods of inactivity. Hamilton was solid until his failure - watching the Mercedes mechanics sprint down the pit lane with a blanket to cover the rear wing was quite amusing, and they were too slow to stop the Williams team taking some photos of it as Hamilton had stopped right by their garage :D

There's nothing really to say about McLaren - they hardly made an appearance and it is clear that the engine, gearbox and electronics aren't working together.

Saucer looked good today, although the car was still more skittish with more lockups than everyone, giving the impression it was being driven a little harder than others. Bottas was really solid again, as was Vettel. I thought I'd do a short video to compare the engine notes, as the cars are most definitely louder this year.

The Lotus wasn't too bad considering this was their first day, but it feels like they have a few gremlins in the gearbox - sometimes after a gear change there was no immediate power to accelerate. The Lotus was also overheating its brakes quite badly for several laps before it broke down on track, so I'm not sure if this was the cause or not. But still, all very early days for every car and team.

The Red Bull was lol-worthy, looking and sounding terrible. I missed the accident that caused it but I guess it was at turn two as there was some serious rubber left there that I'm sure wasn't there the day before.

Anyway, not the best day for photography as it was pretty cloudy at best and at other times downright dark. Click below for the full set, and I've put a few in this post too. Mercedes were the only team for the second day running to use the flow viz paint.

Red bull like to hide their new ideas, it was only a few years ago that they used exhaust stickers on the side pod to try throwing the other teams off see below:
