Anyone have a list of the times sky will be showing their end of day reports etc. on the F1 channel?
 
Last picture is of the red bull I think, if so the nose looks similar to last years. Best guess considering its under a cloth.

What are we expecting to see then guys? Mclaren having a nightmare with the Honda engine? Mercedes to be laughing all the way to Abu Dhabi?

Has anything been said about Renault's engine development? Interesting to see if Red Bull can get back to where they were 18 months ago
 
I think it will be a success for Mcclaren/honda if they do more than 15 laps and don't catch fire.

Renault/Redbull I think are the only combo that can give Mercedes a fight this year if they get it right. Williams behind them unless the Renault engine is still a dog.

From what I understand Renault have put a lot more effort into the engine, adding more dynos, doing far more testing and having the advantage of knowing what works to have a very good idea where to go forwards.

Ferrari shouldn't be counted out, though maybe not taken that seriously. They've pretty much said their biggest problem was crap energy harvesting systems. So relatively competitive in qualifying compared to in races where they had no genuine pace the majority of the time. Red Bull were pretty similar, in qualifying being way way more competitive with Merc than they were in races. They both know to go full split turbo and will gain efficiency from that fuel wise and reduce cooling which will help aero but electrical power and harvesting is where they seem to be focusing their upgrades.


Genuinely don't know about Mclaren/Honda, their main problem is data, even with a successful test with lets say average 30 laps a day first test an 60-70 a day in the other two tests. Think about the laps put in over 19 races by 2 cars by between 3 and 4 teams. 3 practice sessions, qualifying and the race, for Singapore(random, highest or lowest or average I don't know) Hamilton did 23/25/12/17/60 laps respectively in each session, 137 laps total. 2 cars call it 250 laps, that is like 3-4 full test days worth of data, 19 times a season, that is pretty much like 74 extra test days.... times 4 teams, 280+ equivalent test days. Even with a great test Honda will be miles and miles behind the testing curve. Only diminishing returns on testing will mean they close the gap on the other engine manufacturers, after a certain point you will have learned most of what you need to and found most of the bugs. But with 1 car over 12 days of testing I'd be very surprised if they didn't have a lot of engine issues throughout the season.

If Honda have a bad test.... it could hurt very very badly. Red Bull only did 20 laps but Renault managed 150 at the first test. Renault ramped up and fixed loads of problems thanks largely to Caterham and TR putting down so many laps between them. Without the other cars running in the first three tests there wouldn't have been a chance in hell of Red bull/Renault being as up to speed as they managed at the start of the season.

Button has already Tweeted that this test is basically system checks for McLaren, so I doubt we'll see anything ground breaking from them.

McLaren on the back foot already. The engine has fired up so that's good news.

"This is a big day for McLaren-Honda. Ron is here and I can't recall the last time that Ron Dennis was at a test, nevermind present in the garage at the start of play - and nevermind pacing around the garage as the team try to get the car out on track.
"The car has been firing up when I have been peering over the barriers but they don't expect to be going out on track any time soon. Fernando is still in his jeans and dark puffa jacket while Jenson Button is also hanging around the garage, checking out his ride for the season."

Not really, I'd be amazed if he wasn't a lot quicker, the cars have got quicker throughout 2014 quite considerably through development.
