Why not just launch a basic service for the start of the season then add all the bells and whistles later on?

I was relying on this as I don't have a cable TV service so can't watch it any other way, legally.

I imagine they don’t want people subscribing only for it to stutter, pause and/or fail. That would kill any hope of the person retaining the subscription.

Now, if they launched it as a free service with a giant “beta” warning at the beginning it may be different but ultimately that would be a double edge sword... more people would subscribe to it, for free and there’s more chance of issues due to the volume of connections.

I’ll use the example but the WWE did the same... they delayed the launch of their platform and ultimately ended up giving users free months of subscription whilst they nailed the technical aspects.

Interesting; not sure how this actually applies but I did spend some time reading the regulation. In the FAQ they state:

F1 TV said:
Q: Will you comply with EU Regulation on cross-border portability on online content services?
F1 TV said:
A: Yes. We’re fully compliant with Regulation (EU) 2017/1128 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2017 on cross-border portability of online content services in the internal market

So, doesn't that mean you can subscribe in, say, Germany (or any of those EU states which may be in this list) and use in the UK? I've not read the regulation in its entirety. I've got Sky Sports F1 anyway, but would like it for the extra features.

maybe, they could still block vpns, they could still try and do other checks like, o see where you live.
So this by no means we can get it. Amazon and other are compliant but you still get a geo blocking message when trying to use a vpn.

the purposed law was meant to be, we could use any digital service from anywhere in the eu, but it got watered down to no geoblocking instead. So if you purchase say f1 tv in germany you are still able to use it when on holliday in any other eu country. But still perfectly fine for them to block us buying german f1 tv.

ESPN have just launched ESPN+ for $5/month or $50/year and you get access to all of their content and live sports. They've said they'll be running the F1 races ad free after hearing what viewers have said about their opening broadcasts. I've just signed up for the 30 day free trial and if it's any good then I won't be needing F1TV.

Interesting the price differences. Germany and other euro nations seem insanely cheap. France, however only annual and over 3x the price of Germany but they do include f2,gp3 and Porsche replays. Bit punchy for those though.

I was under the impression that F1 TV will not stream, to Uk until after 2024.

From what I'd read Bernie signed the deal before he left, giving Sky exclusive coverage rights of all live F1 broadcasts n the UK from 2019 to 2024, and there are no get out clauses that Liberty can use.

I understood that some of F1 TV's feeds might get incorporated into the sky service, but will never be a separate feed, subscribed or otherwise into the UK until after the deal finishes.

From what I heard F1 TV are happy with the deal with sky, so will do all they can to make sure you cannot get their service in the UK from any other sources except Sky.

Although I think Channel 4 might get to show British GP live, on free to air service, between 2019 & 2024, but only that one race each year, maybe highlights of a few others.

That was my understanding too that we're pretty much screwed in the UK until 2025

Really sucks as i don't have Sky and never will and with their retarded subscription model you can't seem to just sub to the F1 channel via another platform, you need all of sky sports for some bizarre reason

At least Forumula E is getting quite good now and by the time F1 actually is accessible again it might be pretty irrelevant by then :(

You absolutely CAN sub to Sky Sports F1 without taking the other sports channels. In fact they just announced a deal to take the F1 channel in HD FOR £15pm on top of the standard subs. If you don't have Sky then with one of my half price entertainment codes that's £25pm. Still not as good as this it's true, but cheaper than you'd expect?

I can't quite find what you're referring to, the sky site just wants me to sign up to sky and i can't find on any other provider just the option to have SkyF1 :( must be being thick.

Saying that even at £25 that seems an insane amount to spend per month for 1 thing compared to something like Netflix. I guess i *might* pay £10 a month during the season if the coverage was genuinely top notch and was in HD etc.

F1 TV is like the perfect service for F1 we all been waiting for and because of the bernie deal is a no go until 2025 :(

Basically need a friend abroad willing to buy it and share the credentials.

And their T's and C's state that if they catch you trying to circumvent their protections they'll cancel your sub with no refunds.

You need a code from myself to get entertainment for £10 and I'd need to check if the £15 deal is still on to be truthful.
