F10 BMW 535D

Especially when you can get an M5 for £58k after discount and it has a bunch of spec as standard. When you consider future values, it would cost less to acquire than the 535i!

I don't want an M5 because I have to retain some economy sense, or a 6 series (4 seats), I spend 2.5 hours in a car for the commute when I do go, hence the audio, and I take passengers. Simple really :)

An E60 530d and an F10 535i is an odd combination of cars...

I commute 280 miles a day, Mon and Tue (E60 530d), 140 on Weds and 140 on Friday (535i) plus personal (535i)

..but you just said you're keeping the E60 for commuting? It seems odd to spend £56k+ on a car with so many options you are losing thousands in future value in an effort to "retain some economy sense" :p

You must really love your passengers to blow cash on rear seat heating and 4 zone air con. It's not as if the standard 2 zone extended system isn't good enough is it, it has rear vents.

Why not spend the money you are wasting on night vision on solving the fuel economy issues keeping you from the M5? :p

When is your order going in?

I am keeping the E60 for commuting (the mon / tue stretch), the 535i for the Wed-Fri (up Wed, back Fri).

I do love my passengers, and I really really like the night vision system. Current build is apparently 12 weeks, but I've held off till now as I wanted to get a 64 plate.

An M5 with similar options (comfort access, surround view, reversing camera, etc (which don't come as packs)) is circa £87k pre discount.

The 535i you've specced pre discount is more than £70k, and when you factor in how much the 535i will lose vs. the M5...

Are you trying to say, I should get an M5.....:o

Where's my man maths calculator

Why is there no adaptive drive for the M5? Is it just, that good?

M5's seem two a penny on the used market, although the deals are probably worse. Why is that? A well spec'd 535i is near on rocking poop.

I'm still undecided (although never really considered the M as I just thought the idea was ludicrous).

You will lose so much money on a high spec 535i that it makes any attempt at economy a waste of time. High spec 535i are rare because other than you and me nobody wants them. This means it's probably true that the ownership cost of a discounted M5 will probably be lower. Your spec is just crazy, many of those options will depreciate 100% immediately as they have no value to most people. There is a reason you rarely see cars of that spec.

If you want to spend that much money you can and should be doing better than a 535i with pointless mega spec.

Fair enough. Does the M5 get the same 5 year servicing pack deals?

What about:

BMW M5 4.4 M DCT 4.4 Petrol Auto 4dr Saloon
Solid Alpine White
Seats - Extended Merino leather, Silverstone
Trim inlays - BMW Individual Light Sen wood, High-gloss
Active Security Package - Lane change warning system/Dynamic Safety/Driving Assistant
Adaptive LED headlights
Bang & Olufsen Advanced audio system
Bootlid operation - powered
Comfort Access with smart-opener
M Sport multi-function seats - includes lumbar support
Night Vision with pedestrian recognition
Reversing Assist camera
Seat heating - rear
Soft-close doors
Steering wheel heating
Sun protection glass
Sunblind - rear windscreen, electric
Surround-view (only when Reversing Assist camera selected)
TV function

Do you know what seats are standard in the M? ie, comfort, or better than comfort, and are the M sport seats listed above better?

Packs seem limited for the M5, and I don't see any mention of the MFD

Alloys, again, seem to suck, so I saved the £2k in the build by keeping the standard 19"s (personally, I think these are the best looking too).

Regarding options, go with what you want, not a bunch of people on a forum.

You're spunking a serious amount of money on a car, so why not spend a few extra k on a bunch of options that you want?

But you might as well go for an M5 :D

There are things putting me off, which I can't justify (as in, I can't reason why they are putting me off). No parking assist with the M5 (or the package isn't present) yet you can spec a rear camera and surround view. Does that give you parking assist?

No MFD, which I remember reading, a lot of US buyers were cheesed at that, no active cruise, etc, etc

EDIT: Ah, no park assist because of pure hydraulic steering rack.
