Face Book advice

That was probably because you knew more about it than your parents, remember the world wide web is only about 15 years old.

Very true.

I remember 'gaming' over 56k back in the day, awesome... no, no it wasn't.

Anyway, FB is great for meeting people, grooming, perving, lampooning, the works - I've quite enjoyed my time on there.

Sorry, not worth creating my own thread - but on Facebook, what is :

What is that application? Is it like another Farm thing? Or is it a e-birthday card thing? The description, unsurprisingly, is not enough and I don't wanna randomly start adding apps to my account.

It says itself in the quote 'via Birthday Cards'. I guess the app is called 'Birthday Cards'. Sounds gash.

No, you are miles off. The web was officially introduced in 1993.

In January 1983, ARPAnet shifted to the TCP/IP protocol, which to this date powers the modern Internet. If that is taken as the birth date, the Internet becomes around 25 years old.

which came first the internet or the official internet?:p

I think he's getting confussed with the Internet.

History of the Internet

OP, why don't you register yourself, see how you get on. There's no point in judging something if you don't understand it yourself. It's the times we live in, we can either embrace and understand or ignore it and doubt it's credibility.

Yes I will do, but I will have the very basics as im old school and don’t feel the need to let everyone know what I’m doing all the time.

You are aware the internet and the world wide web are different things? :p

We are not talking about the internet, we are talking about the world wide web.

I share the same opinion, I don't have an account myself. But it was our conclusion that even if we put our footdown then she would set-up an account anyway without us knowing, which is worse.

My wife opened an account to see what it's all about and to act as moderator. You only need to add her and a few close friends, setting everything as private. You won't be sharing nothing.

This could actually work in your favour too. It's good way of keeping tabs of your kids who would otherwise keep things to themselves. ;)

set all the privacy settings to friends only.

make yourself a profile and add her. you can then pretty much see everything she gets up to if you want too

see how it goes for a month or two.

i imagine its actually a good and pretty safe way for kids her age to keep in contact with mates without big phone bills or trekking across town to see them. when i was that age we all used MSN messenger and chatrooms. far more dodgy tbh

Thanks for the info, my daughter is eleven and uses a laptop on the table where we can see the screen at all times.

It seems all her friends have it as well as a few of her teachers but I have told her not to try to add them, only her friends.

What's wrong with adding teachers, isn't that just proposing another subject.
I also think its wrong to teach kids to presume things.

Google and a childs imagination can take them anywhere, not sure why you're worried about facebook.

Yup

unless she sets you to restricted access that is

Hope we have another facebook thread like the one where the girl said she was selling the car her dad gave her because she thought it was crap. Then a black guy said said something like "you cant sell that after i bust my nut in it with you" LOL
