Faceparty.....?

Yeah walking up to people in the street and saying "Can i be your friend?" is really effective

Do you never go to pubs, or clubs or out anywhere to partys, social gatherings.
I met one of my best mates in the street, he wanted a couple of rizla, we got chatting, ended up being good mates for over 10 years.
And then you've got networking, freinds through freinds.

I don't see why you'd need an internet site to make freinds unless you are wierd.

It's basically another myspace/ bebo site.
Never saw the point in connecting to people you don't actually know online, surely it would just be easier to go outside and make some freinds?

And why would you need a book for it either.

Actually, I forgot i'm posting on a site full of computer nerds :D

facebook is actually a bit different in that on the whole it revolves around people you already know, you're considerably more restricted with regards to finding new random people unless (somewhat like real life, although that might be pushing it) it's a friend of a friend, or through some kind of shared interest(group, company). I think it's success and the reason most people use it is a keeping in touch mechanism rather than a meeting new people one.

i don't think the actual video was funny or witty at all, kudos to the hackers though, it literally is just a sex scouring site and they've basically just highlighted the fact.

***edit, if it is just the admins, then 'grats to the them for being able to laugh at themselves

If you want to keep in touch would it not be simpler to email, phone, write them a letter, use IM programs?
I mean, if it's anything like myspace, you send a comment, they send one back giving you a confirmation email, you have to delete said email, read comment, go onto their profile, reply, wait for a reply, delete another email, go onto their profile reply.
Seems a whole lot of effort for what I can only see as a form of communication.

It is just a form of communication, I think it's a much nicer website to use than myspace, benefits over email/IM/phone, I have lots of people I know but dont neccessarily want to have my email/IM/phone on facebook, old school friends and the like

Blatant stunt to attract visitors and media attention, working well it seems.

If it was a genuine hack attempt none of the website functions would work, however everything is in perfect working order besides the entrance video.

Agree with this, unless it was a hacker with some bugbear about the faceparty team then no one else would go to the effort of reskinning the whole site and the video etc

Yeah, I think you need to stop talking rubbish about things you know nothing about. And I don't use Facebook for meeting new people - I use it to quickly keep up to date with people I know in "Real Life"........believe it or not I phone and e-mail them also. Amazing!

Good job that facebook is nothing like myspace then, isn't it...

email - addresses change over time
phone - people are out, phone numbers change, leaving messages doesn't work.
write them a letter - very quaint, very 60s, very liable to fail

Ever tried organising a night out with 10+ people via an email distribution list? Or by phone? Or by (god forbid!) letter?

People don't use facebook to do this sort of thing because it is MORE complicated than other means, or because it takes longer...they do it because it's quicker and easier...it's not a substitute for real social interaction, merely an aide to achieving it.

Whilst I agree with what you said, people were writing letters a lot later than the 60's . Email hasnt been around that long you know. Heck even boune back 15 years and Im not sure I knew anybody with an email address or even the net.

Maybe we should start an ocuk forum witha big pad of topics and you gotta add comments and send the pad on.

I'm pretty sure I didn't send my schoolmates a letter to find out what they were up to over weekends/school holidays....then again we all used to live within cycling distance, so usually it'd be a phone call or we'd have a set spot we'd meet at, pre-arranged at the last gathering.

I think if we'd had something like facebook back then, we'd have been much more organised than we were...

why have they not got it removed already, ?

how long does it take them to deal with things like this...

or is it all good publicity.

I organise pretty much every night out by phone takes all of 5-10 minutes to invite 10 people out probably.
Not like people are on facebook every hour of every day but chances are, people will have their mobile on them, instant communication.

I don't get why you're defending facebook so much, I'm always just going to see it as a pile of **** and pretty much useless. Because it is to me, seems like a really pointless way to communicate, email is faster even, and tbh if someone changes their email address they're going to tell you.

I was against the whole social networking thing myself,

but i gave in, and i find facebook has been pretty cool for seeing what old school friends have been up to etc
