More humans alive now, than have ever died.

I would dispute this because I saw a documentary once where a scientist said that "for most of human history at any one time, there was a steady number of 1 billion people alive, and that only changed within the past 100 years or so in the industrial age where we now have 7 times that numbers in such a short space of time, currently 7 billion people alive and they predict 8.5 billion by 2030 and 9.7 billion by 2050".

How can anyone prove that? Cobblers!

I guess you could argue that, although I saw a documentary on just that, and the scientist said in all their research of 10's of thousands of **********, they never found a single one that was the same. It was quite interesting, it was broadcasted on bbc iplayer but I forget the name. They also discovered that the ********** fell into several categories of specific types of snow flakes. They've also proven that there actually is different types of snow and ice.

In 1894, London and New York were drowning in horse excrement. It was estimated that within 50 years the streets would be buried in 9 feet of poo. Fortunately, the car was invented.

There's a beer called "*** fully star out swear words please *** Hell". It's named after a town in Austria (F) and the German word for light lager (Hell).

Oxford University is home to a battery powered bell that's been ringing since 1840. Nobody knows what the battery is made of and no one want to risk taking it apart to find out.

There was a good 3 part BBC documentary about how London, Paris & somewhere else were drowning in all sorts of poo including their own.
Anybody who has ever done the Edinburgh tour where you go down into the original City would know the stories of poo being thrown from the windows twice a day to run down into the loch (now a park).

Fun fact #1: The amount of money spent on pets in the US correlates with the number of lawyers in Kentucky :)

Fun fact #2: Correlation != causation ;)

Worm pill' could ease autoimmune disease symptoms
Date:

Experts believe a molecule in parasitic worms could help explain why worm infections can effectively treat a range of autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. The study successfully identified peptides from parasitic worms that suppress the body's immune response. Researchers believe this could pave the way for a new drug containing the peptide to provide relief from the symptoms of autoimmune diseases.

"Many people believe there's a link between the rise in autoimmune diseases and an increased focus on cleanliness in western societies, because the immune system is no longer exposed to the broad range of infections that previous generations had to deal with.

"There could be some truth to this because worm infection is virtually unheard of in developed countries, yet the incidence of autoimmune diseases is high. But in developing countries the opposite is true," Professor Norton said

People are also looking in to whether a decline in worms and other gut bacteria is one of reasons there has been a significant increase in things like celiac and other food allergies.

So in this case correlation may very well be equal to causation, along with the increase in things like asthma due to being in overly cleanly environments as children...;)

Partly wrong. Up until the industrial revolution population of humans was relatively steady at around 100-200 million. After the industrial revolution the number rocketed up.

It took the radio 38 year to reach 50 million people, 20 years for the phone, 13 years for TV, 3.6 years for Facebook and it took Google Plus 88 days.

The difference is all others continued on to reach billions of people, whereas google plus stopped after hitting 50... :p
