Fads when you were growing up...

Note to self- the Silver Jubilee coin I mentioned up above wasn't a fad...it was a Good Thing!

E. The air pistols (Gat guns) were memorable - I got shot in the forehead at close range with a dart, which I had to pull out.

We went camping once and ended up having a Gat gun fight, all with sleeping bags wrapped around us though....didn't help when getting shot in the face, Gat guns weren't very accurate.

Moon boots.
Doc boots with yellow laces.
Plastic Skateboards, when you hit a stone they just came to a total stop....road rash to the face.
Stonewashed jeans.
Hair Streaks.
Stay press trousers.

Did anyone else make 'cap bangers'?

Take a roll of caps, score down the middle down the length, fold down the length so the powder was on the inside. Fold end on end down to an inch or so. Wrap in strong tape with a rubber band as a fuse.

They were surprisingly effective if you got them right.
A friend of mine lost an eye making/lighting one of these. Rather than wrapping in tape we packed the folded up caps into a biro pen lid. Then inserted a match between the inside of the pen lid and packed cap bundle. It went off when my mate was inserting the match...friction I guess.

I'll be honest, the stuff we did with fire alone, never mind anything else, I'm surprised we all made it to adulthood intact.

We once set fire to a brook by siphoning off the petrol from my mate's dad's lawnmower, filled a demi John and set fire to it on a rock in the middle of the brook..

I’ve mentioned this on here before, but I was left with permanent hearing damage hitting a roll of caps with a sledgehammer.

Almost drowned in a river as well.
