Sent my HD5770 for RMA as i was getting the dreaded "drivers not responding and recovered" ... Apparently card was tested and is being sent back to me!?!

I stated it was a 'Driver fault' at first and that it is no good to me if it isnt going to work correctly.
so why did they have me send it back (costing me money) leading me to believe i would be getting a refund to tell me the card is fine. what am i ment to do if AMD cant be bothered to fix there issues...

Kinda just venting sorry. I will give it ago when it gets back to me if no improvment i will be getting rid asap... first ATi i've had, and the last!

Thanks you've been a wonderful audience. :(

this was with the retailer ... I did describe the issue to them and was recommended to RMA the item.

Should i now speak to AMD/ATi?

Don't think that'll help. Did you reinstall your drivers and even OS to check it wasn't an issue there? I'm sure not everyone with 5770s has this problem, and your card is working fine it would seem bar a possible driver issue.

I'd only take it up if you were 100% promised a refund due to the driver problems, otherwise that sounds like standard practise unfortunately.

There a number of threads here and on other forums that had discussed these issues to great lengths... People like myself have looked for solutions and tried talking to AMD.
It would Still appear there is no solution for this... and the issue appears not to be a one off or coincidence from the range of people with diffrent systems and set-ups... myself and others i read about have tried numourous installs and config's and it still appears to be a driver fault, and nothing to do with hardware compatability.

Although one point of it occuring more so in Intel based systems seems true.

so basically am going to have to sell it at a loss after also paying for postage... Bad times

*sigh* I know how you feel, pretty ridiculous that it costs you money to send something back to the retailer and then you get charged for testing and return shipping without someone actually contacting you regarding the issues

bad customer service

Tbh after making a thread to discuss the problems i was having i was only recommened to RMA which was something i had never done before so niether had i heared of DSR. (just read up though) .
so to answer your Question i only mentioned RMA... Could i now speak to them mentioning DSR to get a replcement or at best a refund !

- People have spoken about the cards now released with a diffrent heatsink having no problems after they RMA'd.

I thanks you for your help and sorry if i seem a little slow on this subject.

YES ! I checked my status yestaday "this item has been processed" so immediatly checked my emails - NOTHING.
Do they automatically charge your account  ?

yep they sure do, and when you try and contact the Returns Manager he doesnt give a hoot and doesnt reply until you have left multiple webnotes (complaints) and rung in various times.

I'm still waiting for him to explain why my item was returned with half of the original Corsair packaging missing..

I too have RMA'd a 5770 with the same problem you were having, though mine is still in the testing phase. Hopefully mine will come back faulty, but I'm worried I'll get the same response you did Bob3rt. Fingers crossed!

Always send a dead-on-arrival item back under the DSR, that way you get a no-questions-asked refund. RMAs give too much scope for them saying "actually, we think it's okay" and then charging you for the privilege.

Software related issues are always more tricky, because they can only check it based on their standard tests. The fact is that it's got to be fit for purpose though, which doesn't just mean "fits into the manufacturer's little box of what is or isn't good enough". If you have ATX-standard hardware and standard software, and it doesn't work, it's not fit for purpose - regardless of whether it "works" or not.

What?! seriously no feedback nothing and they can dip into my account to say its fine... wen for all i know it does the same on there's... but effectivly the card works.

this is a joke! - Is there any action i can take against this... ? so i have just spent £30 to be give the card back with the same problem, proberly.. unless 9.12 is a fix!!!

well the next question is, did you pay on credit card?

my item is awaiting delivery back from the manufacturer if it wasnt for this snow. Once Ive got it and Ive confirmed its a replaced unit and I will be persuing a refund, if they dont accept it I will get the credit card company to withdraw the payment as an "unauthorised transaction" and let them battle it out

No :( bank card...

Well thats just ended my stint with this company tbh.
is it worth confronting AMD about there drivers... or wasting my time?

couldnt help you on that front I'm affraid, maybe someone with some insight to dealing with AMD/ATI would be able to shed some light..

as for the RMA issue I would keep trying to contact the Returns Manager and express your dissapointment with the RMA process - the more people that complain the more likely they are to sharpen up and sort it out

Sounds like a PITA for nothing tbh going to AMD.

Do you overclock your system ? any chance anything your end is causing the issue in all honesty??
I can get my 4870 to do the driver recovery roundabout if i try and OC the system memory too much past stable.

Of course if this isnt the case then sorry to hear that.

No way of testing in other PCs ??

I can and will test it in another PC when it returns to me.

in all honesty i have a Stock System with a fresh install of windows 7 (x64), (Twice) and never been clocked. everyhing else is stable.

Rip!

But wouldn't that be an issue wen playing games were it appears to be perfect! The crash only happens on 2D. Again with the number of repeats on this same issue it can't be a hardware fault... Or highly unlikley.

Thank you for the support / replies. I will be lookin for a Solution further, and ringing returns managment after technical support, I hope they can describe my test and results And tell me the problem I was having to start with... Because how can they solve a problem they're not Fully aware of?
