"Fake Duracell Industrial batteries"

I got caught with razors before; they nearly took my face off! Hopefully this time round I should be okay with the batts.

The other half bought Toothbrush heads off the bay a few years back, might as well have brushed with razor blades. They were very convincing to look at however.

Coin cell batteries all seem to be fake on ebay and Amazon as well. The packaging looks very convincing but they last a couple of days before the lcd screen starts to fade.

I just pay the ripoff Tesco prices now as at least I dont have to keep messing about changing them out all the time.

I've bought small Duracell button batteries from what appeared to be a reputable reseller on Amazon. It was a set of 2. I went to change the battery last week a year after buying them and the battery was swollen. It definitely wasn't like that when I bought it. I'm glad I found it before it exploded. I have no idea what is real and what is fake now for batteries. How can I be sure I get real ones?

I just buy generic Alkaline cells now, because their performance is so close to Duracell anyway and the price difference is so large you might as well. A supermarket Alkaline is also probably less likely to leak than a Counterfeit industrial battery.

Duracel told me that all of their batteries that are genuine have a laser etched serial on the battery. (See my pics above). Although even some of the fakes have this as well from what I have read. Your better just buying batteries from large company's and supermarkets so if something happens you should have some comeback.

I messaged a seller from Amazon who I bought batteries from that would appear to be fake from the information on this thread.

This is their response:

In the first instance I would like to reassure you that all of the batteries we supply are genuine - the Duracell batteries will have been made in the Duracell factory in either Thailand or Belgium depending on the batch..

To provide further reassurance I can also confirm that Duracell do not have the their same livery for their Industrial Batteries as they do their usual 'retail' batteries - so the golden ring is not present on this model. Again with Industrial Batteries it is not usual for Duracell to etch a batch number onto the product.

Please can I ask why you are concerned that the above mentioned issues might be indicative of a none genuine battery? The reason I ask this is that we are aware that there is a website entitled 'The Counterfeit Report' that is providing damaging and untrue information regarding Duracell batteries, which is in turn affecting sellers such as ourselves, and of course Duracell as a brand. We have advised this website of their error and received a very rude response in return. To this end we are very seriously considering legal action against them as the information they are providing is simply not true.

I also have batteries which are identical to the ones in the right hand picture of original post and emailed the amazon seller I got them from. The seller emailed back with the response below so now I really have no idea what is genuine and what is fake!

In the first instance I would like to reassure you that all of the batteries we supply are genuine - the Duracell batteries will have been made in the Duracell factory in either Thailand or Belgium depending on the batch. We do notice that sometimes this leads to a slight variation in the packaging, although the batteries are exactly the same.

To provide further reassurance I can also confirm that Duracell do not as a rule etch their Industrial Batteries with the batch number and that it is usual for them to be packaged lying flat (I believe that some confusion may have arisen from Duracell's marketing imagery where they show an upright battery). Also, having physical seen the production myself (we are exclusive distributors and license holders for other battery brands in the UK), I can confirm it is possible to peel any battery label (regardless of brand) from the battery itself. This is because there are two types of machine used - one to manufacture the battery cylinder and one to manufacture the labels themselves. The labels are the subsequently applied to the batteries and shrunk to fit. If you would like some more in depth in information please see the following video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksxSOwA933M (4.45 is approx. where the labelling process begins to be shown)
