Fake hate crime: Jussie Smollett paid two Nigerian brothers to attack him

You seem to be conveniently forgetting that the republicans controlled both houses for two years.

You seem to be unaware that it requires sixty votes to get a new funding bill passed. The Republicans had, iirc, 51 before the midterms. Additionally I think two of them were against that wall. So Democrat votes were still required.

Maybe Caracus isn't "conveniently" forgetting anything, and got to love your endless little snide insinuations. Maybe Caracus just knows more about US politics than you do.

His attorneys maintained on Tuesday that the actor was attacked by two unknown individuals.

Smollett attorneys Tina Glandian and Patricia Brown Holmes said in a statement that their client's record "has been wiped clean."

"He was a victim who was villified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgement," the lawyers said.

"Jussie and many others were hurt by these unfair and unwarranted actions. The entire situation is a reminder that there should never be an attempt to prove a case in the court of public opinion."

The Cook County State's Attorney's office said that after reviewing the case, they "believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution"

So...he didn't do it?

Very strange development?!? From the info that was released it looked like he was bang to rights??!?
Could be another case of money talks, the US system can be an utter joke, people who have money and connections getting away with crimes left right and centre

So...he didn't do it?

Well they've not said that:

The Cook County State's Attorney's office said in a statement: "After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr Smollett's volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case"

I'm not sure what relevance volunteer service in the community and agreeing to hand over a lump sum of cash has to do with whether or not he did it.

From that statement it is possible that he did it, they don't think it was a big deal and they're happy with just taking his money and giving him a pass as he's already done some community service voluntarily.

Of course it may or may not turn out that they also didn't have much of a case - that is still to be seen though.

That full statement is really quite depressing about the state of the US justice system.

Edit - Though I just checked expecting it to be $500,000 or something, and it was only $10,000

Yeah, I guess they just think it is a minor thing and aren't too fussed... I believe he's still being investigated by the feds though?

His pretty much finished his acting career with this pathetic act, so that's gonna have cost him hundreds of thousands if not millions :D
So his greed has come back and bit him in the ass in a big way when it comes to money, poetic justice at least has been served.

WoW, my bad I could have sworn I read somewhere that he was sacked!
Well I certainly won't be watching anything with him in, unless new evidence is released that vindicates him

What crime would it have fallen under? perverting the course of justice? it sounds politically motivated to just let him off and wipe his record tbh. If he'd got away with his antics and if we're going to encourage more of it by not prosecuting those who are caught surely it's only going to lead to further cases of 'false flag' events and increasing divisiveness. He was basically attempting to drive a wedge between Republicans and black people.

Wow, looks like the district attorney has decided to drop the whole lot because he did some community work somewhere, at some point.

Shhhhhh better not mention her relationship with his family days after the incident.
