Fake Jap VW Vans!

Nah i'm talking about the Nissan E20's

Maybe I wasn't very clear then, what I was trying to say was that if you can find a cheap early bay, as penski said he can, then there really is no need for an alternative. I wasn't refering to the E20's, like I said before, if they are your thing, go for it.

I suppose for that sort of cash it will be a rot box and a money pit, fair enough if you want to put the work in and everything.

Personally i'm finding myself pulled further and further away from european classics and moving onto the jap stuff.

I agree, it probably will be a rot box, what I think Penski was saying those is you can find a perfectly good one for that money if you look outisde the scene - sure there are a few, but not many.

Dont really mind the E20's, they arn't trying to be something they are not. What I dont like about the Diddyvan's is that they are an imitation, whether its after market or not. Also don't like some of the hypocrisy of 'I just want to enjoy cars and avoid the politics', and making similar comments such as, 'Give them the finger if you roll in with this van'. That's just getting involved with all the bull and being part of another 'clique', however small or different. That's the kind of stuff in the classic car scene that makes things unenjoyable. Don't go to as many shows anymore due to that kind of 'clique' attitude itself, much rather just drive around and avoid all the arguments.

The finger comment was about having a laugh - a wry smile at the world.

'**** looks' referred to 'rat look', 'cal look' and so on - not individual appreciation of aesthetic qualities. :)

It's not just VWs that suffer from the whole closed-ranks narrowmindedness thing; have you ever talked to the hardcore MGB types? :/

Fair enough then, guess we will just agree to differ on this one. :) Don't know if you've ever seen the Autotechniks Bay, but that, to me, is a cool bay. Just wouldn't want mine so noisy and drag focused.

Yes, I have met MGB types and I know exactly what you mean. :)

The type who stroke their beards and go 'ohhhh...you should have used phillips-head screws there...they didn't have conventional flats until '78!'

They literally make me want to scream.

God forbid you modify your car...

Surely these vans aren't trying to be a VW van, rather they're paying homage to an iconic vehicle.
I really don't see them in the same way as the fake MR2/Ferrari we see so much of around here..I think they're pretty cute and just another way the Japanese are so good at expressing themselves.

Thats what it seems to me, they are not replicas but seem like caricatures. I think they look great.
