Faking pc breakage

fuse is not a good idea really.

they never use the plug you give them ;) always the one they have on their work bench.

Best one so far, would be to move the power switch header on the mobo across a pin ;) subtle and will stop the pc turning on. End of.

If you want to take your time over it ;) remove the power switch and cut the cable from the back of the switch, remove some of the actual wire wire leaving the plasting shroud, and glue it back in place.

This would look like it was untouched, and no amout of testing replacing components would work until they changed the case ;)

Remove a fuse from the power-supply and place in your pocket - it'll take him forever to find out what the problem is, if he doesn't say to buy a new PSU first. :D

Move the power switch cable on the motherboard along one (ideally power switch jump ground pin, to another ground pin).

Remove the fuse from plug, and replace with a dud one.

If motherboard has onboard graphics, but uses a PCI/AGP card instead, switch the monitor plug over.

Short the CMOS, then remove the CMOS pin altogether and place in your pocket.

Plenty of things you could do.

Replace the fuse(s) with 1A fuses and a have a kettle lead or 2 "spare" also with 1A fuses so he'll think a short is occurring (unless he actually checks the fuse ratings)
