Fallout 3 - Difficult?

also install the 999 carry mod, so much better and not exactly cheating,

It is exactly cheating:p

I just use the backpack mod for an extra 50 carry weight and FOOK2 which completely changes the weight of most items, for example ammo and most ingestibles have no encumbrance effect, and Power armour adds a lot to your carry weight

It's a shame the quicksave doesn't create a new slot really. I found myself in a really bad situation at the absolute final part of NV where I had neither the health or equipment to complete the game and my last save was about 10 hours back. I got there eventually but ended up feeling like I completed it due to an exploit rather than a culmination of everything I'd achieved throughout the game. Had this issue several times, hopefully there'll be a better save system implementation in the next game. Menu diving's never fun

Practically everyone uses this now

Thanks for the tips guys! I am nearly LVL 9 and have just basically arrived at Rivet City (saved that androids life). Getting used to the game a bit more! :)

I personally found NV harder than FO3 doing a vanilla playthrough on each. A few notable parts of NV which took multiple attempts or I just couldn't do them full stop were trying to clear a quarry of dragonclaws or w/e they are called. Layed 4 plasma mines down and was using a hunting rifle at lv 20 and I didn't even cripple a blind one and brought it down to around 80% health before it killed me (in 3 swipes lol).

The ending of the game was absolutely rock solid was well due to the sheer amount of enemies, but I won't spoil that.

FO3 is badly balanced. Start is painful where you can get killed by a dog because your Pistol does hardly any damage, then after a few levels when you get some points into a weapon skill and get a decently repaired gun you start to find it easier and easier very soon.

You've clearly never fought Deathclaw Matriarchs on a modded FO3. Those things can shrug off a Mini-nuke. Its funny when you fire 1 at it in VATS and it comes sprinting out of the mushroom cloud and claws your face off...

Deathclaws are harder to kill in NV then Fallout 3, to kill them in the quarry at sloan, i used the antimaterial rifle and stealthboys, taking them out 1 at a time, lvl 25, on my current playthrough on very hard, it's 1 or 2 hits and i'm dead.

Nah it's not, your can do exactly the same things with out without the mod only difference it's one cuts your game time down drastically as your not going from a place with stuff selling it then walking all the way back again

When the game first came out I stopped playing after a few days because I'd concentrated on energy weapons, and was having a really hard time of it.

Started playing again a few months back, ignored lasers and it was so easier.

Fallout is a strange one. Starts off a little difficult depending on where you go - but in very little time you find yourself invincible.

Same here.

It's been a while since I've played but I think it was the hunting rifle that I found to be a little gem of a weapon. One of my preferred choices anyway.

Not a fan of energy weapons. "high-tech Alliance crap!".

I prefer the good old revolver and the hunting rifle. Headshots all the way. I had a scoped 44 magnum when i down the mega super mutant, but forgot to save and lost it subsequently. damn!

I used normal bullets until I had to fight people with power armour.
The plasma gun has a lower damage then a 100% shotgun but against power armour the shotgun does nothing but the plasma rifle is 1 or 2 shot kill :)

Still at the start. About to begin the GNR quest. I basically rushed the city to get to the destination. Fighting my way would have been impossible, but the enemies just don't run as fast as you do (except ghouls).

Still, It's a shame having to glitch the game.

You didn't "have" to glitch the game.

If you weren't strong enough to make it to rivet city, then don't go there. Hang around megaton and do some quests and explore some ruins until you're strong enough to handle the journey there.

Well thats the thing. Vanilla FO3 was massively weighted towards semi-automatic rifles because enemies had so much health compared to the damage your guns actually did so short of Sneak attack headshots you were going to have a hard time. Assault Rifles and Big Guns were of very limited use and Energy Weapons were too hard to get hold of relative to there power which wasn't a whole lot better than that of a Hunting Rifle... especially Ol' Painless or Lincolns Repeater.

Its all about FWE tbh. Dogs are not bullet sponges and will die with a few pistol shots and automatic weapons do enough damage per bullet that you can mow enemies down with them.
