Fallout 3 mods

Here are some smaller mods which i have used and would recommend. They are mostly just single esp plugins which have no compatability problems whatsoever.

Leather Backpack Adds a Wearable backpack to Moira's inventory in Megaton which you can buy. It adds 50 to your encumbrance and looks really nice. You can also have your companions wearing them
Also includes a mattress which can be put down and used anywhere

Sunglasses Collection adds a new shop in rivet City which sells many different types of sunglasses. I'm running around with my Aviators on atm:cool:

Sprint mod adds the ability to sprint. It drains AP as you use it. Very handy

Ultimate Perk Pack Adds more perks than you will know what to do with. Some are very interesting.

Taking Out the Trash is an excellent mod which removes a lot of the trash in the streets and interiors of the gameworld. It is a while since the bombs have dropped, someone could clear things up a bit!

Another great mod which is almost essential is Fallout Reanimated. It changes loads of animations in the game such as how people hold guns and fire. It is just a texture folder so there is no esp and no conflicts at all.

Bottle That Water is a great mod which allows you to bottle water from any source in the wasteland. It is great in conjunction with a needs mod such as Imps or RI Primary needs, or the one included with FWE. Also, when you drink water you gain an empty bottle

Also, another thing that i find very useful is to change the timescale. If you would like to speed up or slow down the timescale then this is what you need to do

open the console in game with the tilde key
type in "set timescale to " whatever you want it to be (without the "'s)

I have it set to 6, so that 1 real hour is 6 in game hours. It can get annoying when the time moves too quickly when you are out exploring

I should add that the default timescale is 30

I'm just looking for the mod which disables the immediate startup of all DLC. What's the point in you getting notifications of Point Lookout etc after only just exiting the vault.

DLC Delayer
Or FOOK2 does it automatically as well. Not sure about FWE.

It changes the radio signals so that they have a much smaller range and you have to be close to them in order to recieve them. Makes much more sense to me

Crapped myself when the lightning from Enhanced weather appeared. :o

The sound effects are awesome

This was uploaded recently - Teen Boy Player voice. Not sure whether to give it a go or not.

From what I've played, I suggest you at least get in to the wasteland first and then apply the mods.

Try Fellout and the dynamic weather, they do actually make the game 'feel' and look better.

I would definitely say this. Get into the game a bit and see what you like/dislike about it first, then build the game you want based on the mods that look like you would like them.
Personally, i would add an Overhaul first, and probably the cosmetic mods such as NMC's texture pack, Fellout and the Weather mods, as they do not change gameplay, but greatly enhance the game.

Also, a hunger mod would probably be a good idea, though they are not for everyone

Also, is there a mod where you can build your own robots and drones to act as your companions?

YES! I have been playing with this - Buildable Bots, it's a great mod which for a start, changes the loot you get from destroyed robtots, so that there are more parts to collect and you can then use these parts in the ROBCO facility to build your own with a high enough science skill:)
It's ridiculous, i have been on a game for around 130 hours and i have never seen the trader with Sergeant RL-9!!

To get lists of all of the most popular mods, go to Fallout Nexus, click on the Top 100 files of all Time then it will give you the most endorsed mods. You can then change the category so that it gives you the top 100 textures/gameplay mods/weapons/quests etc. But it is very easy to get lost in them!!

Here are some piccies with some of the mods on:) The shots are at a low res because thet were taken on my laptop, which doesn't even play in the highest setting.

The atmosphere of the game is so much better with Fellout on, it removes the horrible green tint to the game making skies bluer among other things
Also, this shows the Caravan travel mod which uses travel caravans instead of the usual fast travel.

Also, you can see the DUI with RIPrimary needs plugin telling me thrirst/hunger etc.

Big Town Overhaul, making Big town much better. Also, you can see the Leather backpack mod

My underground Hideout exterior just after an attack by The Enclave

The bomb has a makeover courtesy of More2Megaton

Most of my Followers in Vault 101, which i use as my player house

DON'T MESS WITH US!!!!!
All BOS, Talon Company etc armour textures are completely redone by FOOK2

Cantebury Commons Overhaul just before a massive storm hits!

Reilly's Rangers Armour redone by FOOK2, also with Sunglasses from the Sunglaases collection mod

Wow, even for low res those screens look great :D

They are at 1280x768 which is my laptops native res. Everything is on high, and i have NMC's medium pack, not the highest res pack. Believe me it looks 100x better on my main rig!

Also, gonna give this a go tomorrow, as it seems to have slipped by unnoticed - Enhanced ENB series shaders

Also, you can't really tell form those screenshots because there are no before shots, but it looks much better with Taking Out The Trash on as well

One mod that i would definitely recommend is Conelrad Radio. There are some great custom radio stations made by modders, but Conelrad is the only one i listen to.
It adds loads of old 50's/60's music to the game as well as some real adverts and bulletins by famous people at the time such as Groucho Marx, Bob Hope etc.

No need to worry about Compatability or conflicts at all, as it only adds a radio station.

This mod adds a new radio station to your Pip-Boy 3000.

Hosted by Katrina, the station plays 55 music tracks from the era of the
Atomic Threat, including 29 authentic public service announcements from
Civil Defense Washington.

CONELRAD (Control of Electromagnetic [or Electronic] Radiation) was a method
of emergency broadcasting to the public of the United States in the event of
enemy attack. It was intended to serve two purposes; to prevent Soviet
bombers from homing in on American cities by using radio or TV stations as
beacons, and to provide essential civil defense information on 640-1240.

2 hours, 20 minutes of Music across 55 tracks
22 minutes of PSAs & Civil Defense
Custom station host dialogue

The station is fully scripted as per official stations.

I love this mod - http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6104

It also works on New Vegas

Lmao Pighardia, what's with the black pixelated tree in Big Town? I haven't discovered Big Town yet but will be sure to install the mod when I come round to it.

Oh yeah:D I didn't notice that. I wouldn't have taken the picture if i had, weird:confused:
It wouldn't be Fallout 3 without moments like that though:p

Big Town Overhaul is a great mod. Big Town is so disappointing when you get to the Vanilla version

I see you went hardcore with the needs mod too!
It must be done differently to the one in Fred's pic. He is using FWE which uses it's own needs plugin. I am using RI primary needs which is a standalone. With my one, the higher the percentage the better. I imagine it is the other way round with FWE (i hope so or you are in trouble Fred!:p)

I've never even used the radio in-game... might have to try it!

I'll add the Big Town mod before I get there too.

Not sure how you guys manage without the support of a robot - the areas around Rivet city are swarming with big scary things!

Everyone outside Rivet City has been killed in my game:eek:

There were 3 caravans and a few wasteland people added by Crowded Cities!

Part of the Vault 101 revisited mod has you being attacked just outside Rivet City, so it might have happened there.

I will probably revive them through the console and then use the mod that makes Caravans Essential. Or tougher traders which makes Caravans much harder, but can still be killed.

Is your game any better Bleek?

See my followers? I don't have any problems with Scary things;)

I might mean Capital Hill, is that adjacent to Rivet City?

It's littered with hordes or mutants and rebels fighting each other, literally 100+ in the past hour I played, inside and out!

Oh god yeah, the Capitol building. Don't go near there unless you are ready for an epic fight! Talon Company vs Super Mutants vs Brotherhood of Steel.

Using BOS patrols adds a bit to that area as it turns it into a great battle. Also there is a Super Mutant Behemoth inside the building.

Speaking of Epic battles, i have this mod installed Battle outside Bethesda Ruins. It adds a MASSIVE battle between the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave. There are upwards of 50 NPC's all battling eachother. I get low FPS, but standing on a hill watching it is brilliant!:D
Especially with the explosions going off with EVE enabled

Are all those followers part of the vanilla game? I don't have any but have vague recollections of some guy from Megaton being a follower when I first played back in 2009. Not sure where he went, but I have picked the saved game up from then... talk about revisiting a past game! :D

3 of them are Vanilla, Dogmeat, Fawkes, Paladin Cross. Other followers are Malcolm (not Jericho from Megaton) Daisha and K-9 from FOOK2, Sydney, Jessi, Kelsey, Lucy West from standalone mods:)

So far I've gone for the hi res map, fook2, dui, and the nmc textures.
I'm going to try the game right now to see if it works, this is what my load order looks like:

I hope it works!

EDIT: In fo3 I right clicked fallou3.esm and clicked check for errors, it gave me about a thousand of them :p

Looks good.
Should all work fine, there are certainly no more plugns needed

It is definitely the best tactic to start with an overhaul/graphics mods, then play it a bit and build from there

The game crashed while I was playing, but it looked good till that point!

personally, i wouldn't bother with the unofficial patch , but if you are using it i would put it after the dlc's maybe.

I have had at least 50 ctd's over the course of my game.

I would strongly recommend downloading CASM, and have it saving often

edit, forgot to say if you use CASM you have to disable quicksave or it will probsbly cause a crash too.

Here are some great companion mods which i have used-

Sydney Follower adds an already existing NPC in the game as a follower. Sydney is fully voiced by the original actress with a quest too. Great in combat.
- Over 420 lines of fully voiced and lip-synced dialogue, featuring the original voice cast. Not one line goes unvoiced.

- Several location and quest-specific conversations and comments.

- Helpful out-of-combat abilities, including fixing up your weapons and cooking some wasteland delicacies. Both of which will improve over time.

- A radio transceiver that lets you call her to catch up, establish and travel to rendezvous points, and arrange little get-togethers when she's on vacation.

- The ability to give her several gifts, some of which will improve her abilities, unlock new features, or reveal new dialogue options.

- The ability to give her haircuts by visiting various barbers in the game world. No external modding required.

- Lots of little behavior tweaks to make her come alive; fidgeting when she waits, sitting down when you do, switching into a nightgown for sleeping, gulping down Whiskey when you make the mistake of giving her some.....

- Plenty of configuration options, including essential status, drug usage, weapon handling, and where she considers home.

- Plus much more! A SPOILER Guide is available with the download that details most of what you can do with her. Or you can play the mod and discover everything on your own.
Lucy West companion does the same as the Sydney Follwer mod, but for Lucy West
This mod turns Lucy West into a companion with voice and lip synced dialog. She can be hired after successfully completing the "Blood Ties" quest via an average difficulty level speech check, the Lady Killer perk or Black Widow perk. Her tag skills are energy weapons, melee weapons and sneak. I decided on energy weapons since I always choose small guns for myself and usually end up with a truckload of energy weapon ammo lying around, plus c'mon lets be serious did you really want yet another small guns companion? Her starting weapon is a switchblade which you'll want to replace ASAP I'd imagine.
Jessi and Kelsey are 2followers who are supposedly sisters who have some great features
Teen Companion named 'Jessi' Which is short for Jessica (Class:Ranger), Her own Ranged and Melee Weapons (Some custom and some with custom textures), Usual A.I packages, Her own Pip-boy Light, New Hairstyle (By Ren), Custom Eyes with 4 extra colours, Her own PipBoy3000 and Glove, 5 Outfits, Her own Inactive Slave Collar, She smokes / Eats / Sleeps and has a sandbox mode when not hired or at Home, She can change your Race for you and Repair your gear for you,Extensive Customizations, Any Karma can recruit her, She can heal in battle and out of battle with Stimpaks, Home Marker System, Run Speed Menu, Barber Menu and Many Many more features. Way too many to list :)

Amy Wong
is a companion who has some great unique features
  • Receives hair cut from barber
  • Repairs your equipments
  • Develops her attributes and skills by use
  • Develops her skills by consuming skill books.
  • Develops her intelligence by consuming destoryed books.
  • Hires her own bodyguard
  • Goes on a trade tour to sell the items you gave her, and buy ammo, food or medicine back
  • Gains experiences for you.
CRI squad gives you your own personal squad that you can call in to help you

This mod allows you to radio-in special CRI-Squads to serve as your personal bodyguards in the treacherous wasteland. Future updates will include several Hero classes and Heavy classes. CRI Squads have their own custom load out and equipment.
These are the companions that i have used in my game and have kept them in:)

*** it is best to load most companion plugins after **** if you use it otherwise their sandbox mode will not work and they might not follow orders properly
