Fallout: New Vegas

it shares a lot of the same textures etc most of the fo3 ones should be compatible with a few changes.

you could use the old stalker packs on their sequels etc, some new textures wouldn't be affected but most where.

True, though would you honestly use a FO3 texture pack on FO:NV in the hope the small improvements visually would make up for the likelihood of stability issues?

Buzza if you want to play it now just follow the link last page about using the proxy. And seriously a 3 day wait is not worth wasting your money on the Xbox version where you get no mods.

Ok guys, i have never played a Fallout game; and i am after a new game with a good plot, gameplay etc. Is Fallout really that good? The only thing that holds me back is looking at videos, it kindal looks boring with no atmosphere

Get Fallout 3 GotY edition. You can get it much cheaper than FO:NV and the gameplay is basically the same for both. Sat watching a video isn't really the same thing as playing it. It can be very atmospheric, more so with mods that give it some proper weather patterns or make it darker at night. Theres no HOLY ****ING **** moment quite like walking through the wasteland for a Yao Guai to leap on you from behind... or having to stop what you were doing and head back to a doctor because you can't heal your concussion (seriously those things give me a headache they're so effective).

Just don't go into it thinking it's a shooter. It might look like that on the videos, but combat is very much geared towards the skills your character has and less about your skills as a gamer.

Trying Fallout GOTY edition would probably be a good idea as it is less of a financial risk.

Well ive got it all installed and running. First impressions, it looks very Dated, but its still quite fun :)

Oh, and i had to turn off the radio as it was causing a lot of irritating stuttering.

i like the graphics the style is pretty good once theres some nice high res texture mods it should look pretty damn nice.

its a pitty the lighting engine is pretty non existant but i guess it is primarily a console game...

I put a lot of it down to partly poor/old tech, but mainly poor art quality(style is fine though). Even on a console there are open world games with better graphics. What does help though is using "wait" to get to early morning quickly so the sun comes up and adds some colour and makes the world less flat.

Like you say, Ill have to dig out one of those mods, the extra texture resolution would be good.

the mod is for fallout 3 though i dont know if new vegas uses many of the F3 textures... its only a matter of time until someone does the mod for new vegas though.

heres some fallout 3 ultra hi texture mod shots someone posted in the screenshot thread

Youre right it does look good, they didnt just do high res versions of the textures they actually improved them, i look forward to that, i hope its available soon.

I honestly checked the settings after leaving the doctors house because of no shadows.

With a sunrise+good weather it looks very nice but had a massive lol at main characters head, it looked like Mario 64 but only when zoomed in for customization. A little bumbmapping would be nice.

For whoever wants it there is a real bargain right now on Fallout3 GOTY @ retail a very well know place is selling for only £12.99  which includes all 5 DLC over 2 DVD's. Bargain for that price as you got Fallout3 as well ;) several other etailors are also now selling it pretty cheap as FNV is out ;)
