Fallout: New Vegas

This game is far too big!

Played 53 hours so far, furthest I'v got, is done most of the quests out side of the strip. Just entered strip today and got plat chip and gone to see Ceasar.

I took the map reveal perk, and I  when I looked at the map!

Getting abit edgy now.... played the game too long.. I have the feeling im going to just fast track through the story missions...

Are there any notable locations or side quests I should be aware of?

Loving this game. Or should i say 'was loving this game' up until today. I'm about 20 hours in i think and so far it has been fine, no crashes/freezes or anything. Then all of a sudden whatever i do the game crashes within 30 seconds of playing . I have tried loads of fixes online with the fallout .ini file but nothing makes a difference. I was thinking of uninstalling the game (saving my save files though) and reinstalling it, see if that makes any difference :(

Anyone else find that the strip sucks? You spend a lot of the time getting to the strip when you get there small.. and not that interesting? Starting to think I preferred the Fallout 3

I bloody love this game; I think I'm addicted (Fallout 3 is like one of my all time favourite games, so it's no surprise really). I've pretty much spent the entire duration of any day that I've had to myself since Christmas on it, and I've clocked over 30 hours so far. I've barely done any quests (considering how many there actually are), as I've spent most of my time just talking to people and exploring the wasteland for decent loot. Having taken the Explorer perk, I don't think I've even discovered a quarter of the map yet!

Huge Game! Im 55 hours in, and I think I'v had enough really.

I'v got some many big powerfull weapons to use, which I was saving expecting the game to get tougher...

However Im playing the game 1 level below the toughest and to be honest with you its a doodle now.

Im level 27 with 2 companions nothing can stop me. I waltzed in to the legendary death claw cave, and gave them a right good bashing, even using just a plain service rifle and only wearing combat amour!

I think the game goes down hill once you enter the strip! Outside of the strip its good. Loads of locations, loads of things to do. Loads of twists and turns, loads of places to explorer etc...

But as soon as you enter the strip.... you in to the closing section of the game!

It also loses the survivalist wasteland feel to the game..... Im very disapointed that that there is not a bigger emphasise in this game on the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave!

That for me is the best of Fallout! That they did well in Fallout 3.

What I like about this gametho, is the pacing of the leveling up, lasts the majority of the game! For instance Im near the end now and im only level 27.

In Fall Out 3, you reached level 20 less that half way through the game, and leveling up is part of the fun!

Anyway game is good, but I feel like I played it too long now, and the graphics and the performance issues are terrible for a winter release 2010 game!!

Edit* no spoilers if you know something I dont. I'v just started doing some missions for the brotherhood, so Im not 100% sure there isnt much Brotherhood vs Enclave actio, just what iv gathered from looking at the New Vegas Wiki.

Had a big problem with this game tonight.

Went into the weather station to either upgrade the securitron bots or destroy them. Chose to upgrade and went to leave and the Legion guard kept asking me for my weapons. Even though I'd said yes, he kept asking me.

Only choice was to kill all three in the room which failed all Legion quests but in the end I opened the console and type kill and he just keild over dead and I could get out - huge frustration.

Just deciding whether to kill house or not.

EDIT - I think I'm at the point where I have to make a decision.

If I kill house, other quests fail, if I talk to the colonel lady at the dam, quests fail. I guess this is where I have to decide who to side with?

Anyone know if eating multiple of one food item will generate hp quicker?

I don't think it does but what about eating multiple different types of food at once, does that work ok?

Also is it a good or bad idea to be enemies with the legion?

The answer to that question is largely the point of game, it is your choice, deal with the consequences, if you try to play the game the "best way", you will be playing it wrong.

Also no, eating more than 1 thing will not speed up the speed of health regen as far as I know. Surely you can just try this and find out? quicksave/load is a wonderful thing.

Just started a new game on hardcore, got about 6 hours in and got bored of it, unless you seriously RP it up it just feels like an utterly contrived way of extending play time through fast travel loading screens, what would be cool is if hardcore removed the fast travel system it couldn't be turned off once selected.

I think the main problem is the world, for a post apocalyptic wasteland there certainly seems to be a lot of STUFF, it's not like STALKER where you might occasionally come across an abandoned military stash with some bandages and a tin of spam, in New Vegas you are literally falling over civilised little towns full of stupid AI characters who stand on their porch shouting "Come in come in, steal everything we own, we'll be in the next room staring at the wall!". Get into any kind of trouble and WHOOSH fast travel back to your safehouse on the other side of the desert, down a litre of water and some noodles, magically fall asleep for 10 hours and BAM, off we go to fight another day.

Loved it to begin with but once you get level 20 onward youre pretty much invulnerable & gets boring fast. When it came out we were all talking about it at work but a few weeks later most said they hadnt finished it or simply werent bothered anymore. Great start/build up, massive let down at the end.

Oblivion will always be my first love simply because of the pleasant surroundings (epic music, simplistic nice talking folk) & great story lines.

Playing this Nehrim mod really shows what the engine is capable in the right hands

Began the game on Hardcore, 25 hours in & have a huge amount of conventional weapons & supplies stored in Goodsprings.

From the outset I started dumping any surplus in the fridge of the house belonging to the guy who stands outside gardening & whenever I'm nearly over encumbered I fast-travel back there. This is easier for me because if I start creating other stashes across the map I forget what is where.

I just added the simple mod which gives you a home in Goodsprings. In the basement there is even a different box for each type of ammo. It's really handy :D

It's only a "bad" idea if you want to complete the Legion's side-quests, but they only have four* (the NCR have dozens), so it's not really an issue if they all hate you unless you're some kind of completionist (you don't even get anything decent from completing them, and I believe the companion Boone won't join you --or he'll leave you if he has joined you -- if you're Liked or Idolised by them). Besides, as Fenris mentioned, the whole point of the game is to choose which factions you want to help you, so it's entirely your choice.

*One of which you may have already done if you went through Nipton during the early stages of the game anyway, and another can't be done if you help the NCR during the quest Restoring Hope.

Still playing this game, in fact I think it is probably time to head to Vegas now as I got the Explorer perk at level 28 and noticed that there were only five locations I had not been to, two of which were deep in Legion country.

Took out the Legendary Deathclaw last night too, nice fight that!

^ I've just passed level20 at have decided to head in.. You'll need at least 2000 caps to proove you can have a wager or two..

Anyway, does anyone know why I have Lockpick" 55 yet the pip-boy shows as 48 (-)?? What does the minus mean and why is it down?

You're wearing armour thats reducing the stat or under a drug effect or possibly effected by radiation.
