Fallout: New Vegas

Just wondering if the NPC performance issues have been completely resolved with all the patches? With my rig, New Vegas should run like an absolutely dream (performance-wise at least; Fallout 3 certainly does), yet when I'm in a somewhat crowded area, such as The Strip and main area in The Tops Casino, my fps goes from a solid 60 to just over 40.

I tried running the game with that d3d9.dll, but the game either crashes or I get a black screen (depending on which d3d9.dll I try using). I assume the reason the .dll isn't working is because they're not compatible with the patched game, but I don't hear of anyone having the NPC issues post-patch, so maybe performance is just shoddy compared to Fallout 3 in general?

About to start my 2nd run threw and planing to take my time, rushed the game a lot last time to complete it fast as didn't have enough time to play it,

So I have decided to play it Hardcore mode! can anyone recommend a good starting build for hardcore survivalist type?

So fare I'm thinking

Strength: 5
Perception: 5
Endurance: 6
Charisma: 5
Intelligence: 7
Agility: 6
Luck: 5

For Skill:
Guns or energy weapons?
Survival
not sure on the 3rd?

The game runs shoody full stop.

I was just re-reading the release notes today for the patch. You dont need to apply the d3d9.dll at all, that was taken carred of in the last patch.

Hitching and crashes are normal for this game....

Fallout 3 from memory was slightly better gpu optimized, but still suffered from crashes...

Im currently playing the game on the level below the hardest.

At the very beginning up untill I think level 20 ish, its extremely tough.. tough to the point that if you dont pay attention a little matis can take you down! (Im not kidding!)

Now tho, im level 25 and Death Claws and Night stalker are easy peasy!

The only thing that isa challenge are those pesky cazadores! Loads of em, and the poinson makes them the deadlest thing in the game!

Anyway's I think you can go guns or energy weapons early, I went guns, as I assumed that bullets and ammo would be more in supply.. I think that may be true, but only to a small margin.

Play it safe and go guns.

I was struggling for amour and weapons. But if you'v already played through the game you already now where to get stuff from.

All I will say is, do the van graafs mission, they will give you combat amour, vault 3 and vault 22 have a treasure trove of weapons and amour for you, so do those as well.

I'v played so far about 50 hours and havent entered the strip, and have a whole list of quests lines open.

Wow nice lol mine was around 25 hours and completed I guess I missed a lot,
Thanks for the tips, I think I am going to go gun again, just need to figure out a good S.P.E.C.I.A.L ruining through good springs quests atm kinda cheating selected the skills need to get all the items off the people to help defend village hope the rewards good.

Dont skimp on the side quests... loads of stuff, and I think they have designed it so that certain side quests, eventually lead you to amour and weapons for free etc....

So they have a purpose..

The game is utterly humongous!

Why Charisma at 5

I would never put it higher than 1, there are no disadvantages and no good perks you miss (I think) and you can put points into the Speech and Barter skill.

So fare my Character looks like this:

Strength: 5
Perception: 6+
Endurance: 7
Charisma: 5
Intelligence: 7
Agility: 7
Luck: 5

Just left Goodsprings put skills into
repair : So I can fix my armour and make my own ammo
Survival: make my own food, drink & doctor bags help me through hardcore mode
Guns.

Was reading yesterday that Charisma makes your companions more powerfull.

Supposedly*
It increases their 'nerve' but what that means isnt mentioned, I have a CHR of 1 and Boone is still deadly with a Sniper Rifle.

There might be some good of having medium CHR but the advantages of the other SPECIALs are better,
high INT means more skillpoints,
high AGL is more AP for VATS,
high END means more Implants,
high STR means more weapons you can use effectively and the more you can carry,
high LCK means winning is easier in gambling and gives a skill bonus to *ALL* skills.
PER isn't so important but some good perks need PER at 6

This is what I used:
Strength 5 (6)
Perception 5 (6)
Endurance 7 (8)
Charisma 1
Intelligence 9 (10)
Agility 7 (9) Small Frame trait
Luck 6 (8) Intense training +1

I got 6 SPECIAL Implants and the armour one.

So my Speech and Bater skill can be level faster

Unless somethings very diffferent from FO3 points in it makes no difference except the starting skill number. Difference between 1 and 5 Char would be 8 points in each i think which is the equivilent of 1 levels skill points and the loss of having something with a real effect by putting them in other stats.

The only reason to put it in Charisma on FO3 was if you wanted to take perks associated with it, the stat itself is utterly useless.

I would guess 'nerve' could mean they are more aggressive or maintain there 'style' even when they get injured?
