Fallout: New Vegas

I almost never buy weapons from vendors due to the cost, I prefer to loot them all.

Well, that way worked well in fallout 3, but in New Vegas, the very best weapons are extremely rare indeed. There is at least one of each top-end weapon available to loot somewhere in the wasteland (apart from the anti-materiel rifle), but you will almost never find them on enemies.

Marksman carbine, riot shotgun, sniper rifles, anti-materiel rifle: These are probably the best of the bunch, and are all-but impossible to find by looting.

Lost Companion

I let my companion "Craig Boone" go as I had to get another companion for Quest, so I completed the Quest went to find Craig again in novac can't seem to find him anywhere? Any ideas miss his sweet sniping :D

Anyone who was waiting to get this game like me (still playing Fallout 3) a well known place has it brand new on ps3 and 360 for 19.99. The PC version is 14.99.

Ordered my copy now, hurry while its so cheap! lol

Don't think i have ever seen a game drop in price so quickly, now halfprice or less before I've actually completed it.
66Hours played, enjoying it.

-edit finally chose an 'ending' and played it through last night.
Still plenty of places I've never been to.
The 'explorer' perk, shows how much depth they have added to the backstory and unrelated stories.

Not on normal difficulty at least, I looted a few Marksman Carbines (gave one to Boone very early on, although the cheeky beggar swiped the All-American from one of the Vaults thinking I wouldn't notice!), was able to repair them up to full condition with other ones too. Sniper rifle to be honest maybe I bought it, not sure. Riot shotgun I can't have found many of because the condition got pretty low (I hardly used it because it seemed very underpowered against armoured enemies anyway). Anti-materiel yes as mentioned I didn't get one until fighting at Hoover Dam.

It's more the energy weapons I'm thinking of, i.e. Tri-beam laser rifle / gatling laser / gauss rifle, I never found any of them.

To be fair I never got round to using the missile launcher, grenade launcher or Flamer, got a nice ammo stockpile for them so hopefully if a DLC comes out allowing you to keep playing I might get an opportunity to use them. In NV they just encumbered me without getting used

Not saying it is necessarily a bad thing that you can't easily loot top end weapons, just that it was so different from FO3 that I wasn't used to playing that way. I've got over 50k caps so could probably buy one if I wanted.

Another thing I never did was making anything at workbenches, I think my problem was that the game doesn't give you an easy way of knowing recipies. What I'd like to see would be some kind of HUD element where you can program it to say what item you want to craft, and then it would put icons/messages saying what parts you need to find to craft that item. Or alternatively when you activate a given recipie it would put a little marker next to the necessary parts when you are looting. I came across numerous stuff while exploring that could have made some nice gear no doubt (weapon repair kits especially) but I never really knew what I needed for what and couldn't be bothered lugging a load of tat backwards and forth between my bases on the off chance.

UI for selling inventory and workbenches is utterly rubbish, they didn't overhaul it, and it really shows.

Agreed... It's a pain to scroll down everything. Subdividing the inventory into weapons / apparel / aid / misc, just like for your actual inventory, would have made things MUCH easier.

Just had an annoying glitch with Flags of Our Foul-Ups I got the squad to do the gun practice but only could do the first skill check with grenades so I come out the conversation and read a Patriots cook book to boost my skill but now I can reenter the conversation with 'Mags' and my prior save was some time before this how well back to trudging the waste land.

If I buy this game, when I install it on steam, do I have to download the hole game although I already have the retail disc, or can I install from the disc?

And when its installed and if I want to reinstall windows in the future, can I just backup the game with the rest of my steam games to a single file, and copy the game saves in the steam folder?

Thanks

get some better weapons guys! :p thats what i'd reccomend. and use VATS religiously. lol. also, remember to repair weapons when you find duplicates of that weapon. i dont know if its a bug but i can repair all my rifles to full without having much repair skill at all.

avoid radscorpions like the plague, they are very annoying. if you see them before they see you, just go round them.

I didn't even get that far the squad just froze at the gun range and wouldn't do anything. I ended up just leaving Camp Golf alone and finished the game today.

Just about to start this myself.

Any config tweaks or ini editing I should be doing before starting ?

just doing the vault 22 quest. damn i must be weak, those giant mantis kill me VERY quickly :/ didn't really enjoy that quest lol, too hard. mind you, i am taking all the perks which involve sniping, shooting, and guns, rather than toughness etc..
