Fallout: New Vegas

just doing the vault 22 quest. damn i must be weak, those giant mantis kill me VERY quickly :/ didn't really enjoy that quest lol, too hard. mind you, i am taking all the perks which involve sniping, shooting, and guns, rather than toughness etc..

Oh yeah, I also remember those Mantis' as well as the Spore Carriers, Brutes etc. in Vault 22, they always start off as friendly before turning hostile, I used this to my advantage and just shot at them as soon as I saw the label for them on my screen because they are well camouflaged.

I did have Cass with me though, so that made it easier for me!

i dont have a companion or anything yet :( lol. soon as i saw the label for the brutes come up i spammed them with the flamer. :D the mantis though... hard to kill because they jump so far and the attack they do is pretty powerfull.

think i might take the animal lover perk next. i remember getting ganked by three fire spitting lizard things yesterday which killed me. also, i saw a butterfly thing in the distace and though this will be an easy kill, the thing killed me in like 3 hits

Yeah I'm getting the whole 'wasteland hates me' vibe as well, currently stuck on a rock with 5 or so gecko's circling me and only a machete to hand. Can't even outrun the little bees as they move so damn fast.

Havent played this game yet, but Iv bought it so will get round to playing it soon.

Have they fixed most of the bugs in the game? At least it doenst crash right?

Also it sounds like companions are a big feature inthis game, from what im reading.

In FO3, I didnt have a companion, although I did hear about the dog which was available.

i was too evil in the last game for fawkes to join me :(

You missed out.
Approach Enemy, wait for Fawkes to warm up his Mini Gun, wait, wait some more, All enemies are now dead, I mean ALL enemies, loot for goodies. Give to Fawkes to carry if needed.

The guy was/is invincible. :D

It already does that. Just click on the sellers name at the top of the screen (or your own) and it'll scroll beteween weapons, clothes, aid, misc and ammo.

Really

Nice :)

As for the problem with the giant mantis; use VATS on the suckers. A couple of headshots will put them down sharpish.

aye, i usually use vats for them, its just they they are very sneaky. and before you know it, you're dead :p

erm quick question... i want a scope for my hunting rifle, where do i get one? lol, its my favorite weapon. reminds me of a KAR-98.

All mods are randomly placed around vendors.

Although the gun runners should have some i would have though.

The gun runners is your best bet...

But really, if you have the caps then dump that hunting rifle and pick yourself up a sniper rifle :) For me, it's the best gun in the game overall. It doesn't have quite the kick of the anti-materiel rifle or gauss rifle, but its rapid rate of fire makes up for that. The sniper rifle will come with a scope as standard.

The only problem with the sniper is finding ammo! On very hard the gun runners only seem to restick every seven days, and they only get around 40-50 rounds of the .308 regular and armour-piercing variety. Not nearly enough for my needs! Mick and Ralphs sometimes have .308 ammo, but never very much.

edit - sniper rifle has a x5 critical chance multiplier too... So, if you have luck of 7 or more, "built to destroy" trait (+3% crit), finesse perk (+5% crit), and the ranger beret from Boone (+5% crit), then you will have a 100% chance of getting a critical hit :) With the "better criticals" perk, this means you will be doing three times the damage of a regular shot each and every time :) In this way, it puts pretty much every other weapon to shame.

Random tips you probably know and that have probably already been posted several times, but that make a big difference to your game...

- press q to autorun
- press and hold r to holster weapon. Now you run much faster!

It might have been covered already in the thread but it appears that you can lose all the items you store on ed-e

If you follow his quest chain, and allow him to stay with 'the man', when he returns to you with the upgraded armour, he will be carrying nothing.

Anyone know of a method by which to recover the good he was carrying?

anyone done the other part of this quest by taking ED-E to the "other faction"?

Where is ED-E? Am level 16 and have possibly bypassed him...! Had a quick look in Primm, but couldn't find him in either casino, so went off and did something else. Is ED-E much use?

ED-E is my only companion at the moment, he is good at shooting smaller 'baddies' but can carry 210 so I use him as a mule mostly.

Spoiler-

He is in the Primm casino owner's house (just on the corner on the other side of the road from the casino).

He's my pack mule :D

He can be found in the Nash's Shop in Primm

I took him to the Followers to get upgraded, they boost his attack power rather than the armour
