Fallout: New Vegas

I also found that ammo isn't really that much of a problem when starting, in the first few hours I found an outpost named 188 something that has a trader and a gun runner near Freeside that has a lot.

It only needs caps but that's what casino's are for :)

Does anyone know if there is a gun in Vegas like the Terrible Shotgun from FO3 i.e. an automatic Shotgun?
And a gun like Lincoln's Repeater?

the brush gun is like lincolns repeater. although it looks like a garand IMO.

costs 7000 caps from gun runners. cant get a scope for it though which sucks..

I find myself playing the same way almost all the time, almost always I have a long range gun like a sniper rifle or Varmint rifle with a scope to shoot far away targets, a machine gun type weapon for medium range or indoors and a shotgun for CQB or when I am cornered by multiple enemies.

I never ever use energy weapons, mines or explosives, am I missing something or are there more people that play the same way?

I went through the whole game with a pistol and occasionally the energy sniper thing.

I just hoarded a shed load of weapons and kept them in my hotel room all fully repaired in case I needed them which I never did.

I've got kind of a habit of doing that in these sort of games, never use the good guns because I'm scared of wasting ammo.

Pretty much how I play as well, although given the super-high critical chance, I end up using the sniper rifle for medium range kills a lot of the time. When things get close and hairy I will break out the combat shotgun and chew everything to pieces :D

For me, energy weapons, melee, and explosives just get turned into caps.

I'm about 4-5 hours in now... Played it with the experience from Fallout 3 which does help. I'm just walking around the wastelands, picking up locations, loot and collecting quests to build up the XP.. whilst remembering to take on water and food. It's quite surprising how quick you level up and locations to the map. I'm so enjoying this so far.

I've just taken a room at Novac :)

I haven't decided which faction to take yet, most likely NCR!?!

Yeah, I find dynamite and throwing spears a good source of income.

If I have five 9mm pistols I want to sell, would I get more by selling them as they are or would it be better to repair one or two to increase the value?

It depends on your repair skill, and how badly conditioned they are.

In general, it's better to use the really poorly conditioned ones to repair other ones. Best thing is to try it out and see where the limits are. See if the value of the new gun is more than the combined value of the originals. With a high repair skill you can make a lot of money this way.

Okay, this is annoying.

I somehow annoyed the Legion and as such I was in Nipton yesterday and all of a sudden 5 Legion pansies in skirts attacked me.
After killing them I got a message I was vilfivied (SP?) by the Legion and a message that I failed two quests that I did not even start  will this impact my game in a bad way later on?

I found with energy weapons and explosives there was no reward for using them, the guns are no better than normal weapons and ammo is harder to come by. There simple cash cows to me.

Nope, the quests are ones you could have done if you went down Ceasers route. You get the same thing if you kill certain people.

It just means you can't take the story in that direction. I guess one of them was Beware the Wrath of Caesar and the other was Render Unto Caesar?

I can't see the names anywhere and the message was gone too fast for me to write it down, I think it was something like 'cold cold ????' and another one I don't know at all.

I do remember killing an enemy with a helmet looking like a dog.

I guess I will not be doing the legion any favours anymore, shoot on sight seems the way to go for me.

"cold cold heart" is a very straightforward quest. After talking to the lead "skirt pansy" at Nipton, you get the option to go back to the Mohave outpost and spread word of the Legion's attrocities at Nipton.

No idea what the other would have been. But it will be a minor, side quest. You will still get the option to follow the Legion / Caesar quest line though... At some point in the main storyline you will be pardoned for all your past actions against the Legion. You're not that far in yet though.

You'd have failed Cold Cold Heart And keep your eyes on the prize quests once you've killed benny and seen mr house your legion rep will reset and you'll still be able to choose between NCR or Legion at that point

Thanks guys, I am glad I can just continue the game.

Can it be that Boone might have shot a Legion guy without me initiating hostilities making the Legion attack me now?

Is there a point in the main quest I need to stop and start doing more sidequests?

If you're travelling with Boone, then all legion will become instantly hostile to you (and he will shoot them).

As for the side-quests, well you can do them at any time. BUT, if you're wanting to play all the different faction endings, then you should do all the side quests before you progress too far with the main quest. That way, you can re-load at this "certain point", and won't have so much to do in order to play the different endings.

I won't spoil the story by telling you exactly where to stop, but it will be pretty damn obvious when you're doing it (you will have the option to kill one or more pretty important people). Put it this way - you are safe up until a couple of steps after the main quest takes you to Vegas.

Than it was Boone that was trigger happy.

Thanks, I will do some main quests and some sidequests when I find them.

Hardly, I took Boone to the Legion infested town where they've slaughtered everyone, he swore at them under his breath but didn't attack them.

I couldn't get Boone to be my Companion - I'll need to start again to do this - I think it comes down to going too far down The House Storyline and/or doing the initial quest for Caesar to get Benny.
