Fallout TV series being developed by Amazon

I think i just don't like the gore + light hearted feel of the show.

That's one of my issues with it, Fallout has always had silly humour and some ridiculous parts and I'm fine with that. However, the TV show feels more like Borderlands than it does Fallout at times with how wacky and silly things get. Especially when it's hopping between genuinely serious moments, such as the flashbacks with the Ghoul which I personally found to be the high point of the series. It just feels poorly balanced in my mind, the abject idiocy of some of the characters didn't help either. I never got on with Maximus, I saw someone mention that he probably has the "idiot savant" trait from the games and I'm sort of inclined to agree. The problem is, I don't think that translates particularly well on the screen with how he was handled.

I'll watch season 2 when it launches without a doubt, it's a decent offering for what it is but it feels very over hyped.

Yeah I agree on that. It very much does feel Borderlands style.
I've become more and more turned off by gore and maybe I struggle with people getting blown to bits with no emotion etc. I dunno. It is difficult to put my finger on exactly why I've not taken to this. But maybe it is like you say, the sudden jump from death to happy and the total lack of empathy. But it's not as funny as deadpool. I did like deadpool because it was super comedy. But it was all comedy, and sold as such. This bounces around. Maybe that is it. For me my brain isn't in "this is comedy" or "this is emotive" or "this is suspense".

I also agree on maximus. I find it a bit frustrating his character. I guess I find him stupid but also not funny.

Hope it improves (from my perspective).

I am finding it strange to figure out these great reviews from publications that would almost always slate something like this.

Some of the gore issues make less sense to me for the above reason, the early violence showed satirical shock but not much else. The people involved in it had been shielded from such things for almost their entire lives, but it simply doesn't work well.

The joke you discover later on that they were trained to be middle managers sort of fell flat.

The comedy is largely slapstick and lacks subtlety, but silly violence piled on top with a lack of nuance put me off. I'm not looking for Citizen Kane with something like Fallout either, just semi-realism for the setting and I very much struggled with that. For reference, I'm a big fan of horror movies and gore in of itself doesn't bother me at all. I do feel that the complete and utter lack of emotion or concern when anyone sees it is a big problem with the series, it isn't that way in the games.

Me and misses started watching this, up to episode 4 now.

Seems ok so far, although I'm not hooked on it. The misses loves it though.

We really dislike Maximus and I switch off when he's on screen.

didn't someone have a leg shot off and they were pretty much calm like they feel no pain or shock.

What was that other show Silo? and what was the ben stiller one. lemme google Severance.

I wish the series was more similar to those, Fallout just seems kinda theme park with no mystery or anything, no sense of adventure even just one green screen to the next.

was not bad all the way through. nothing brain taxing. id give it a 8 out of 10 over all. hopefully amazon dont do a netflix and cancel. like most big budget shows. what i would really like to see is same formula but with bioshock.

Exactly how I treated it.
Bangs from the sub, gore and a few 'new to me' scenes.

Just finished the last episode. Really enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next series. I can see this being the next big thing.

My missus also enjoyed it and she absolutely hates computer games.

One thing this did suffer from was way too many quest lines and trying to fit it all in 8 episodes. What we got was good but not enough of it.

I guess this is typical of a first series though as they are trying to cram everything in and the first few episodes are basically explaining everything to the uneducated.

Started playing Fallout 4 again and will go back to 3 and Vegas after!

Cool, so as a sensible, rational person you'd probably give that "not bad" as a 5/10, maybe pushing to a 6/10 on the "sensible, rational" reviewing scale -

WHAT IN THE SWEET BABY JESUS!!!! I see you must be using the "pants on head" reviewing scale then -

I was pleasantly surprised by this, possibly because my expectations were very low. The story served as an interesting introduction to the world of Fallout. The interplay between the three protagonists was (mostly) well done. And though it did veer into Borderlands humour at times, I think they mostly nailed the tone.

8/10 from me. Certainly worth a watch, though I doubt it'll be in my Top 10 for the year.
