I'm a member of a few other forums, a couple of them are much larger than OcUK and the rest are far smaller.

It occurred to me the other day that I have no idea who any of the moderators and administrators are on the other forums. I looked on a couple to see if I could find out who they were but it really wasn't obvious. I find this a bit odd and wonder why they do that. I was approached a few months ago to be a moderator on one of the larger ones but that approach was from a generic account, not an actual user account. I use the report function a fair bit there and the responses to reports (whether accepted or not) are always a standard reply with no indication who's dealt with it.

We're very open here about who's an Underboss, Don or Commisario. The entire team is listed in the forum rules and we don't hide. It's just how we've always done it.

What do you think, is it better to be open the way we are or to keep that sort of thing quiet like a lot of other forums?

Personally I think you hit the nail on the head with openness and it's a positive for this community. Obviously us regular users don't need to know the full details of who what where why when or how moderation is done but knowing who we can go to rather than being a unknown faceless group is great. Though I'd also add, that moderators are part of the community helps too, there's some forums I'm on where the mods are more the people just running the site.

There's a mixture of a few forums I use, some like to be mods in the background and have their titles etc disabled. Others like to be at the 'front' so to speak and deal with most reports. One of the forums I use daily I get the same handful of mods who get in touch after I've reported something.

One thing that forum does more than here (think it used to be this way in the past?) Is they have specific mods for each sub forum rather than covering all sides of the forum.

It was better in the past back when we had London meets. I remember meeting Huddy, Maccy, Thundycat, Freefaller and Burnsy. Can't remember if there were others.
EDIT: semi-pro-waster?
