Well when one has one’s location hidden, how is t’other supposed to know?Hertfordshire brethren (except those from Stevenage) need to stick together and love, bro.
Go full transparency and open visibility of the mod area to the public.
Pls don't do this.
One mod?Actually a drink up at Christmas with the mods sounds great.. at the end there should be a special treat.
All the mods drag out the one mod that decided to turn the forum green on a night out so we can throw things at them.
I'm a member of a few other forums, a couple of them are much larger than OcUK and the rest are far smaller.
It occurred to me the other day that I have no idea who any of the moderators and administrators are on the other forums. I looked on a couple to see if I could find out who they were but it really wasn't obvious. I find this a bit odd and wonder why they do that. I was approached a few months ago to be a moderator on one of the larger ones but that approach was from a generic account, not an actual user account. I use the report function a fair bit there and the responses to reports (whether accepted or not) are always a standard reply with no indication who's dealt with it.
We're very open here about who's an Underboss, Don or Commisario. The entire team is listed in the forum rules and we don't hide. It's just how we've always done it.
What do you think, is it better to be open the way we are or to keep that sort of thing quiet like a lot of other forums?
Nobody likes a snitchI use the report function a fair bit there
It's a double edged sword, you get additional attention both negative and positive purely due to the perception of authority, even if it's not even close to being wielded at the time. Not everyone handles this well, some get inside their own heads a bit and see authority challenges every time someone disagrees.I like the openness and transparency, as well as having the go contact points if required. Plus you can flaunt your fancy invite only titles
That seems like a good idea, quite often on here ppl ask why someone was banned.Interestingly the other forum that is still around have started publishing posts informing users that user xyz has been banned, stating the reason and duration.
I would like this forum to have a post graveyard, where if you wish you can choose to be an adult and not find offense in menial words on an internet forum so you can then have a chuckle to yourself for the reason why posters are bannedInterestingly the other forum that is still around have started publishing posts informing users that user xyz has been banned, stating the reason and duration.
This other forum, they have a feature were a post can be hidden from public view but a signed in user can unhide it for themselves. It has been a while since I've seen it so I could be misremembering.I would like this forum to have a post graveyard, where if you wish you can choose to be an adult and not find offense in menial words on an internet forum so you can then have a chuckle to yourself for the reason why posters are banned
They could have a note when you hover over someone username stating the reason why. That seems like a good idea, quite often on here ppl ask why someone was banned.
or they simply don't say they just have things like "forum moderator" as an account, some didn't necessarily hide it, but didn't really say outright but you learned fairly fast, and others like here are quite open about it (Stratics for example) and have the moderators posting and moderating using their one account.
It’s basically because people were over using them in almost every thread. It grew tiresome, so putting a blanket ban on them was the only solution.I've fallen foul of the forum rules a number of times but I think the balance is about right. The private section (where you can post a query for the Dons to see) is a great little addition to the open-forum threads like this one.
The only thing I can think of to add to this is maybe make a list in the sticky rules thread on why certain things are banned. E.g. Jesus.jpg is banned but I'm not sure why, and also we can't mention that Welsh town beginning with an R but again I'm not sure why. So if that could be added into the sticky, then I think that will save from the readership asking about this. There is also "that brown bear". I think I know what the sticky meant regarding that but again a confirmation would clear it up for the readership.
It's all really just through overuse, which causes a downward trend in overall discourse. Also some such as jesus.jpg just made people very very mad if I recall, even if "cool story bro" is technically the same thing. Some of these kinds of things remain, but they tend to be tolerated as they're not yet overused (subjective, I appreciate) and are to my knowledge more home grown, for example boxing stance, letterbox, etc.The only thing I can think of to add to this is maybe make a list in the sticky rules thread on why certain things are banned. Nexus Mods has a subforum like that where they list bans and why for transparencies' sake which isn't a bad idea. Also its fun to grab some popcorn and read all the reasons for the bans its quite entertaining the majority are teenage edgelords who think they're being clever but infact just manage to look like idiots. The rest are spammers salted with the odd bigot. (At least this place is free from kids mouthing off and the ones that do don't last long)I would like this forum to have a post graveyard, where if you wish you can choose to be an adult and not find offense in menial words on an internet forum so you can then have a chuckle to yourself for the reason why posters are banned
