Fanboyism

I suppose more forums dedicated to consoles would detract from the focus of £300 graphics card and other performance hardware ;)

Trolls will get suspended from the whole forum if they persist after warnings.

Fanboy actions are generally considered trolling. They purposely trash threads with their off topic or baiting gibberish which is pretty much the definition of a troll.

I don't have a list but there have been a number of people told to stop being a tool by thread trashing/baiting, and they generally comply for a period of time.

I have a 360 but hate Halo and Gears. I -want- a ps3 but hate God of war and Metal Gear. I'm sort of screwed because even if I wanted to be a fanboy, I can't pick a side because all the 'big games' are ******* rubbish.

But it has to be said, if you all want to stop fanboyism it starts WITH YOU. A lot of the time, its having an "us versus them" mentality in your posts that is the catalyst for the fanboys wars. Don't crow about X platform having Y feature without at least being generous to other platforms. Everyone is a big boy here, you all know when you make a post if it's going to spark off some ****. You can't do something like that, and when the flames start coming in, throw your arms up in the air and yell "hey the fanboys are at it again".

If a thread is made about a new PS3 exclusive, sure those that don't own a PS3 can view it and can make comments but it's when these comments are just "Meh, Gears Of War rip off" or similar that starts all the arguments and de-rails threads.

If everyone ignored those comments, the comments will stop. Not entirely of course. But you have to remember that those comments are meant as an insult. If you respond, it means that insult found its way to you and scored.

Now they are 1-0. Some faceless pratt from Minnisota is laughing at you because you got butt hurt when they said the ps3 sucks. As soon as you defend your console /emotively/ you lost. It's different if they say something that is technically incorrect, you can just put them right. But if you respond emotively (ie you stab back at them), you lost.

Better to recognise the jab for what it is, and not respond at all. That way, their jab didn't hit you. If everyone ignored those types of comments, there'd be a lot less of them. A community governs itself, and if everyone is on the same page, the trollers will either get bored and go away, or integrrate themselves in with the behaviour of everyone else.

It starts with everyone here. Take control by moderating yourselves. (It's not easy to do I have to admit. I certainly am no paragon of virtue -- ask around. I'm sure I've made it onto a few ignore lists, hah. But if everyone at least tries, thats all thats needed, and the difference will be remarkable).

It's very obvious when some one is being a fanboy i can not see why the people responsible are not pulled up on the spot.

I see Kreeeee do it once and worked fine.

ps ^. May not of been a fanboy comment but was some one trying to mess with a thread iirc.
 
I have to admit I dont see the issue - I enjoy the fanboys on the forums (including sports and F1) as it truly hits home to me that you have to be pretty sad and blinkered to bother to have such biased/unfounded opinions and spend the time and effort to ensure threads that dont require such posts are contaminated.

Hell I think its quite a good sport to find out which of the fanboys is gonna make an idiot of themselves on x/y topic and there were quite a few challengers in this years E3 thread. Myself, Whappers and Shugs had a cracking Sony E3 conference this year :D

In all, its best just to laugh at them but at the same time pity them for what they are, especially when they have to resort to the net to post their vitriol - they just cant have the best RL in reality :(...

If it does get too much as Kreeeee said just report them (Im sure the mods would be more than happy to keep the forums ship-shape if we have continued abusers) or put them on your ignore list - its simple and painless. Just like any 'bullies' if you ignore them, they will just go away - they need the attention to validate themselves...

Unfortunately I have zero power as a UB so often get ignored when I ask folks to stick a cork in it. It's quite a frustrating role really as I'm always chasing mods to sort stuff out or make a post confirming what I've said :p

I literally am just a tea boy :p

In an ideal world Kreeee would be a mod. Ok i may not agree with some of his opinions be he is always fair. For the lulz i'd like to see RP2000 as a mod, the smackdown would be too much for anyone under the age of 18 to witness.
 
I want fanboys to be mods :D - say one from each camp - Head Fanboy...

That would be an epic Ninja Warrior-esqe way to see how long normal posters didnt get banned for...

There will always be fanboys, not just for consoles.

Ps3 vs 360 is just 1.
There's always : Intel vs AMD.
Nvidia vs ATI.
Diesel vs Petrol ( have a look in motors :D).
Star Trek vs Star Wars
Apple vs Microsoft
etc
etc
etc

There will always be fanboys :D
