When I first started watercooling, everyone used Yate Loons. No matter what you were doing 9/10 they were the best fans and EVERYONE used them.

Now, everyone uses random fans I've never heard of. I'm not sure what rad I'm going to use but I'm pretty set on a quiet computer. At the moment I use 1650 yate loons with a swifty MCR220.

I'm thinking of adding a XSPC 480 rad but now I have no idea what fans to use. I'm open to a different radiator too, I just went with this one based on a friends reccomendation.

I'd say that most folk, including myself, like to have their fans on a controller so they can find a sweet spot between rpm and noise. Personally I have Akasa viper 120mm fans running at around 1000-1100rpm. There are lots of good fans out there though, so find something you like the look of and that has good airflow and you'll be fine.

I've been doing some research since I plan to use quiet fans too. Yate loons are all rounder budget fans, but if you're looking for a good performer whilst being quiet then have a look at Gentle Typhoon 1850 rpm.

I've just bought myself 2 Gelid wing 12 UV wings and they are absolutely amazing! Compared to my old enermax Batwings (red ones) which were pretty loud after awhile running at 40% speed.

I'm running mine on a Scythe Kaze Server though which i find must easier to use and ontop of that have the ability to turn them down lower than 40% which my old NZXT couldn't do.

I would personally recommend Scythe Gentle Typhoons. Quiet, nice air flow, and good static pressure to ensure great performance.

I'm trying to avoid using a fan controller though as I'm going to employ a slick front panel with just a single slit for a discrete optical drive.

I don't really want anything louder than my current yates. I'll look into the gentle typhoons 1850rpms. They're still quicker than my current fans rpm wise though...

AP-14's (1450rpm) might be a better option if not using a controller, also the Akasa Apache's (1300rpm) are a decent fan but cost a bit more than the GT's.

I have bitfenix spectres running stock and they are almost silent and move a decent ammount of air. There is a member review around with my comparison vs tri-cools on my PA120.2

I use xigmatek orange & white led fans, very nice and quiet, might buy some scythe gts and add some orange leds though :)

I still use yateloons 2000rpm on a controller.

Can't be beaten on price.

I would just stick with them and get a controller paying 12-18 quid on a fan is just ridiculous

I had Akasa Vipers on my rads, They was noisey and didn't shift much air they have bad air pressure those on max rmp @ 1900, Put less air through my Rads then my New Scythe GT - AP-15's on a controller on 5V and their Silent, Knocked my Prime 95 temps from 71 to 63 max they're so good and cheaper then Vipers.

I have a controller, a sunbeam one with 4 channels, already. I just don't want to have the knobs sticking out the front as I'm thinking of making a clean frontplate.

stolen from a thread in cases.. worth a read.. about XSPC rads

Looking good mate, nice job.

Though I dont really rate XSPC rads tbh, I had the RX480 and RS240, and I got better temps using my old Alphacool triple rad using the same fans. (the Alphacool rad was only 45mm thick as opposed to the 56mm thick RX series)

The new Thermochill TA series rads are much nicer imo.

I've tried the TFC quad X-Changer, XSPC TX480, and Thermochill PA and TA series, and the TA rad is by far the best out of them all.

I expected to see a dramatic drop in temps going from a dual and triple to a dual and quad (the XSPC RX480), but instead I ended up having worse temps, and a year down the line about 2 weeks after my warranty expired the RX rad developed a leak from one of the center tubes.

They are one of the most expensive quad rads out there, that's what made me buy the thing in the first place, but like I said it didn't perform as well as any of the other rads I have tested personally.

Also the finish on them is pretty poor as well, the paint was flaking off my RX480 when I bought it, and it only got worse as time went on, same with the Feser X-changer, but my Thermochill rads have a much durable finish on them imo.

I got a good deal on my RX480 I got it from OcUK for £60 as opposed to the prices they sell for now (I got it when they were selling off all the old WC stock), but after owning one there's no way I'd advise anybody to go out and spend £114 on the RX480 simply because of the issues I had, like I said, I expected to see a change in temps going from a triple and double to a quad and double, but instead I ended up with higher temps.

So your triple rad is better than a quid and a duel rad.

Am i missing something.

You must be the only person who has had bad temps with one of the best rad.s you can get.
