Fantastic thunderstorm in Kent

It was pretty spectacular; I was travelling back from central London and got home around 1130pm in SE London. Was seeing constant strobe type lightning as cloud cover was heavy but hardly any thunder claps at all! However, I think it was around ~1am when it really hit; had to get that bedroom window closed sharpish with the hail!

So gutted I missed this, currently on holiday in Cyprus. I love a good thunderstorm and it sounds like it would have been amazing to watch last night, more forecast too.

You haven't missed much -- looking at those two videos I feel a bit of exaggeration is coming from those in the south east :) or they haven't seen a real thunder storm yet

We had a few bangs around 7.00 but nothing to write home about - It's still looking black over Bills mothers though - that will be Wem - Ellesmere way.

It's pretty hard to get a good video using a mobile phone. It doesn't pick up the constant rumbling over the rain noise, and only the close lightning flashes get picked up. It was much more violent in person, and lasted much longer. No doubt you've seen better but its still the most intense storm I've witnessed in this country.

I got home to SE London just after 12 and had to clean rain off about 4 windowsills and the venetian blinds, once I remembered mine were all open

Was so strange, actually didn't get much rain at all, the storm passed from sea through the Rye/Camber area and I live just west of that which is roughly Hastings. The cloud was thick so lots of the lightning was just smaller flashes but saw plenty of fork lightning that was closer. The constant rumble of sound was amazing, I've never heard anything like it before. It was literally non stop rumbling so near constant lightning going off over a large area.

Got some videos of it but they are at the moment pretty large and not sure about uploading.

Started again in Birmingham. Loads of hail and seriously loud thunder.

Was just about to post this. My 2.5yr old is hearing this for the first time. She somehow slept through last night. She's coping really well actually, we are just letting her watch out of an open door. Would rather she knew it wasn't dangerous than be scared of it.
