Fantastic thunderstorm in Kent

Welling da16. About half hour away.

Off thread a tad I’ll agree, but I spent 12 miserable months in Anthony Rd. Welling DA16, you might do Streatham Hill in 30 mins on a motor cycle, but you’d be hard pressed to do it in less than 45 by car.
Never did the trip, but I’d guess, Rochester Way - South Circular - Lee - Catford - Forest Hill - Dulwich - West Norwood to Leigham Vale/Leigham Court Rd, good luck.

South boys REPRESENT :p I grew up in Brixton/Streatham and now live in Brockley/Forest Hill. Nothing takes 30 minutes!

What was miserable about it? Anthony Road is on the council side of Welling, I know that. I think it does have some ASBO issues.

I had no idea of where Local Authority housing was in Welling.
I bought my first house there after splitting with my wife in the early 80s, the few neighbours I met in Anthony Road all seemed okay to me, to the best of my recall.
Prior to that, I had lived all my life in Bermondsey, and schlepping from Welling every day back to civilisation with the commuter traffic was a royal PITA, plus the return trip too.
As a licenced taxi driver, I could alter my work schedule, so I’d leave Welling at 10.30-11.00 a.m. to miss the traffic.
This meant that if I wanted to return home by around 6.30-7.00 p.m., I’d be sitting in traffic again, so I’d work until 9.00 or 10.00 p.m., and get home around 11.00 or later.
This did not fill my girlfriend with joy, she urged me to leave home around 05.30 a.m. to beat the traffic, and try to get back at 3.30-4.00 p.m.
Getting up early was not my style, plus I had done The Knowledge in order to go to work WHEN I wanted to, and I didn’t want to go at 05.30 a.m.
Cracks began to show in the relationship, and eventually we split, and I sold up and bought a house back in Rotherhithe, where so far, I’ve lived happily ever after.

One of my favourite pubs is in Rotherhithe. It’s called the Mayflower. Being into nautical history as I am, it’s just such a cracking little place with amazing location, decor and decent food.

The South of England getting the rain and the North and Scotland getting sun and warm temperature. Long may it continue after cold and wet summers over the past four years here.

Mayflower is maybe 200 metres from my house, but I prefer The Ship, St. Marychurch St., too many tourists in The Mayflower, but I’ll agree that the food is good, we’re straying well off the storms here.

Heh I used to live around those parts for a few years - on a bad day I've spent 3-4 hours just trying to commute a few miles around Croydon - especially around West Wickham it could be a nightmare.

EDIT: It is one of the reasons I moved away from that area.
