Far Cry 3 Thread

FIXED NEVER MIND :o
turns out far cry 3 led me to a problem i did not know i had
so after several more BSOD had a nosey in event viewer
seems i had 2 audio drivers fighting each other causing crashing and bsods (odd how this only affected this game?)

Has anyone dealt with crashing ?

several crash lock-up reboot BSOD

Can play anywhere from 10 - 20 + mins then Boom
Blackscreen not responding/stopped working sound still plays though

happens in both Dx9 - Dx11 - regardless of graphic settings

i7 860 @ 2.80GHz
6gb ram
Asus Maximus III GENE
XFX 6970 2gb

Anybody have some advice ?

Cheers

FIXED

I've still not worked out where the saved games are kept. According to posts on the tinternet, they are in C/Program Data/Orbit/46 folder but when I copy those from my laptop across to my desktop the only choice I get when the game starts is to begin a new game.

Weirdness.

I was having some slow down (with everything on max.) on my GTX670.

So I disabled Vsync and its now smooth as silk....wtf? Shouldnt it still be smooth with Vsync on but capped to my refresh rate? With it off I dont notice any tearing and the FPS has shot right up. Bit strange.

Price back at £54.98 now :(

PRODUCT TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE now. lol, must have sold out pretty quick at £4.94!

May have been a pricing booboo! - http://www.vg247.com/2012/12/17/gamestops-far-cry-bundle-features-all-3-games-for-under-5/

Using the 0x080912F5 flag in Nvidia inspector gives me constant 60 fps with everything maxed out using 4xMSAA at 1920*1200.DX11

Game runs sweet.

Thanks for that! Loving this game so far, but I'm not even doing the story, just roaming around, hunting animals and admiring the views. tremendous fun. Exactly what i was looking for after finishing Just Cause 2 again.

hearing bad things about the campaign in reviews, but I haven't really done much of it, is it really that bad? I will get around to more of it eventually. The mushroom doctor guy was fun.

Got this game yesterday at that ridiculous £5 price.

Just fired it up this afternoon and its fantastic. Looking forward to completing it.

I have a really awkward issue with Far Cry now, I've completed the game and I'm at the erm, 'free roam' stage now, where you're just left to do what you want and finish up straggling quests/collectibles. However...

It's running at about 10fps constantly! It was fine before the ending credits, 40fps +, now it's dropped to 10 for no reason everywhere. :D

Just beaten this, thoughts below:

+Performs pretty well 75fps+
+Good range of weapons/customisations
+Taking over settlements is a nice mechanic and an improvement over the respawning checkpoints of FC2
+Good game length, lasted me about 20hrs and I didn’t go for 100% completion
+Nice to see XP rewards for stuff like letters, relics etc as it gave me an incentive to collect them rather than just for meaningless ‘achievements’
+Takedowns work well as they are quite generous with the range. Helps to encourage a good blend of stealth and action especially on assassination sidemissions.
+RPG elements such as skills, crafting etc help to add a bit of variety and purpose to the grinding
+Pretty big game world although I never really did the bottom of the south island (3 unclimbed radio towers)
+Some good humour particularly around the side missions

-Graphics are fairly disappointing and don’t really ‘feel’ any better than FC2, although I haven’t compared directly. Sunsets are good but some of the textures, especially on mountains or some of the indoor areas, seem very low quality
-Random physics bugs after takedowns sometimes has bodies flying up in the air as though there was an explosion. Frustrating when you are trying not to draw attention to yourself!
-Continuity is a bit lacking in terms of the same storyline phonecalls repeating after you complete side missions, it’s like it keeps triggering the intro to the next story mission even though you might not be planning on tackling it any time soon. Got pretty annoying being told over and over to go and meet this Citra person for a couple of hours.
-Low carry limits are annoying especially the wallet, I was stuck on $2000 for ages until I found some Carasuay Leather. Even maxed out it only holds $10k which is really annoying, I keep having to buy random upgrades for rubbish guns I’m never going to use to keep a lid on it. Annoying that half of the maps are locked from purchase for ages.
-Looting is annoying as often there is a gun drop closeby that ‘gets in the way’ (same key to loot and swap weapons) and normally I never want to swap guns as my 5* ones will be better
-Game is quite slow starting as you have pretty limited kit so I was focusing on sidemissions to beef myself up a bit. So the first 8hrs or so I wasn’t really convinced until I started doing missions out of BadTown. Even then the “Buck” missions are quite repetitive…. Basically around 3 or 4 cave quests when it felt like two would have been sufficient.
-Not sure about some of the plot i.e. in the space of a few days you’ve gone from a guy who doesn’t know which end to hold a gun to wanting to stay behind on the island ’where you belong’ rather than going home with your girlfriend to grieve. Jason gets a bit over-excited when using the flamethrower and mounted weapons as well.
-Hiking can be annoying when you have to take the long way round a mountain searching for a grass patch to climb up, only to find you chose the wrong direction and have to backtrack.
-Supply drops are too easy, only remotely tough bit is trying to not to run over the idiot usually stood by the finish line!
-Annoying sections where you get all your guns stolen, fine after escaping I’ll fast travel to a settlement and restock, nope that’s banned, OK I’ll just hike it to the nearest one, no I get warned about ‘leaving the mission area’…. So you have to rely on looted guns in a section with poor checkpoint pacing. The section where you come out the water and have to make it to the helicopter took me many attempts.
-Inconsistent checkpoint pacing as per above (to be fair, very few games get this right)
-Crafting ‘runs dry’ in terms of having all available upgrades before even reaching the south island, it feels like they could have extended it a bit as you go from the old days of being desperate for a particular type of skin, to not even bothering skinning animals

I have just started playing it last night, but at the end of the first quest where I had to get the flowers and 2 pig hides, after returning to the village i was shown how to make syringes and a larger rucksack. It then went into another screen with all the different items I would be able to get including two that were unlocked (takedown and something else I think), but then I couldnt get out of that screen, I couldnt see anything to click on the screen so I first tried the escape key and then every other key on the keyboard, in the end I had to ctl alt del
What did I miss doing (probably something obvious)
Thanks

I have just found somewhere else it is the "kills screen" and that I will need to double click on the two skills, but i'm sure i did that, will have to have another go tonight

It fooled me at first in fact I posted similar problem a few days ago when I first got the game, just double click on the skill to 'learn it' & then you can move on

Thanks for the replies will give it a try tonight,
still need to muck about with the graphics setting though, colours look over saturated, very green grass etc

Whole game is incredibly over-saturated much like FC1. It helps in a way as enemies are always nice and easy to spot due to their high clash colours.

I've had some good fights trying to take outposts with those heavy slow moving armoured pirates that seem immortal, however they don't like you driving a vehicle at them :p
I drove in one end & flattened the heavy dude & drove out the other end hitting the second one & straight back round to mow a few more down inc the, second heavy who was still standing, then I got burned to death by the reinforcements arriving.
I realised the reinforcements needed stopping so I restarted & mined the bridge & road first, still quite a battle with repeatedly driving off out of sight to heal myself but could not repair the vehicle, why do we have to waste a weapon slot just to carry the repair tool ??
