Far Cry 3 Thread

Should I be getting better performance?

I'm running the game at 1680*1050 on mostly highest settings (Ultra I think) and only 2xAA, it gets choppy in some places where the view is very far into the distance but a part from that is smooth, want to use my other monitor with 1080P res though.

Sounds about right.... I have most my settings on highest I think with maybe 4x AA at 1920x1080, and I get about 50fps+ which drops in some areas

Does the processor make much difference? As I'm sure a 5870 is faster than a 6850 in which case my performance might be slower than it should be.

On another note, I find the AI the most intelligent of any game I've played, I was sitting by a bush and a car went past, so I started shooting but missed, I thought nothing of it, next minute I heard the car thrashing it towards me and nearly running me over!!! They quickly got out and started taking me from behind!

Kinky! :D

Yeah I have found them to be better than most games AI at times too, however I still get the odd dumb ones running through my line of fire instead of taking cover :p

Is it just me, or does the AI dialogue annoy anyone else occasionally? For example, I just single handedly took over an outpost without being detected, and the AI shows up after and claims "this was all me".

Makes me want to put a bullet in his skull. Maybe I'm too easily annoyed.

loving this game so far just going round unlocking the radio towers and doing some side missions to start with, crafting all the upgrades the graphics are better than i thought they would be too, Looks even better with 3D on,

I'm managing to stay above 55 FPS average on max settings (MSAA on 2 or 4x) its definitely a bit of a system killer If i move that GPU render thing from 1 too 2 i drop down to 20 fps and it gets real laggy so i cant max everything on this game = (

What are the best settings for best quality and performance?

Apparently HDAO is AMD optimised and HBAO is NV, but I'm getting better performance with HBAO.

I'm noticing I'm getting a slight stutter too.

Absolutely loving this game, a nice feeling of freedom, I can either be sneaky-sneaky with my knife and bow, or pull out my grenade launcher and flame thrower for some ****s and giggles :D

Such a fantastic improvement over no.2

I completed it last night. Bit disappointed with the end mission but that's a small issue really. The story is ridiculous but still enjoyable, I found the cutscenes were very well done most of the time. The sound effects and visuals also impressive, as was the gunplay, it felt right.

Tempted to give the second one another chance now. Think I could put up with attacks now. Maybe.

Guys.... sorry if this has been posted before by others but need advice

I got the AMD games bundle free with my HD7950 but when i used the code to get Far Cry 3 i got a email saying check Game section of UPlay and the game will be there but it ain't in there, i know it says it may take a while to show but still not there.

I ordered the game through there website like it said on the email i got with the game codes.

Any advice guys ..... should i still wait or have Ubisoft messed up the order ?

If you're being eaten a lot then you haven't worked on health and healing skill enough. With a good loadout and the right skill unlocks, you are an army onto yourself.

The shark attacks are make you jump for sure, especially when deep diving  As for the furry land animals, do you have ears? They all make a racket

Tbh you have no reason to even be attacked by land animals because as you say, you can hear most of them a mile away. The pack animals you fight can be awkward very early on but a single arrow or shotgun shell kills them. As for Tigers, Leopards and Bears, the shotgun makes short work of those until you get any half decent SMG/AR. The Shredder kills them so easily it doesn't really matter and the Cannon you unlock through uplay can drop most animals within a clip too.

Shark attacks on the other hand... my god. Totally trivial enemies for the most part. I was hunting them earlier on on a Jet Ski by going around an area until I found 1, then crashing into it with the Jet Ski, going back and swimming down to find the corpse. Then later on when I was doing the Maneater Shark Hunt I took a few out with a bow, night fell and the water became pitch black so you couldn't see anything under the water from above, went down to retrieve my arrows and nearly jumped backwards when the Maneater suddenly attacked me. Not that it mattered. Swam back to the boat and took it out with a few arrows.

I love using a silenced sniper rifle - so satisfying! :D

Not really. After a while the blowpipe like 'pff' from the silenced shot seems a little dull (and ridiculously easy). The Z-93 on the other hand which you could probably hear half the island away is satisfying. Especially when you can 1 shot Heavies with it or bodyshot multiple enemies in a single bullet.
