Glad I didn't pay too much for this.

To get it to even startup I had to disable the Steam overlay.

It then crashes every 10mins or so

You did well; I couldn't even get past the first loading screen.

There must be a work around for the problem? I did briefly look into it, but not that much as I'm playing so many other titles (aren't we all - Steam ).

From what I read and hear, it's a very good game indeed.

Have tried them all, no idea why it keeps crashing

Will come back to it if (and that is a big IF) I run out of other things to play

Have to say I was a bit dissapointed with Farcry until last night and my trip around the drug fields with the flamethrower, much fun was had (at last)

Finally managed to get it working. Re-downloaded and it works fine.

I am enjoying it and it definitely gets better as you get better gear.

If you playthrough again, it is well worth using ziggys mod/swartz compilation imo. Allows you to get the gear earlier, as well as other things.

I did it with a flare gun, which made me feel needlessly badass. Aslo has the best use of music for a set piece in a game I can recall.

I'm loving this game - already completed my first playthrough and am well into my second. Surprised to read about people having technical problems with it - it ran flawlessly on my system, never had so much as a stutter out of it.

That flamethrower mission in the weed fields was epic.

I agree with this, it was the most memorable part of the game for me

Just because it runs flawless for you doesn't mean it does for everyone else. Read around and you see that there are lots of issues that Ubisoft have not fixed.

Works fine for me now, as long as the Steam overlay is disabled. If not, the game crashes on startup.
