Far Cry 4 due this November

I'm going to be one of those people, so I apologise in advance. To save me reading through all the posts, how is the state of the game currently? I was aware there were a number of game and performance issues, especially for AMD. Have they announced a timeline for crossfire profiles or anything of the sory?

I'm playing DA:I at the moment, so I'd be happy to wait this one out for a bit if needed.

Not sure about AMD. Some people saying it's fine, some saying it's stuttering like crazy.

Performance graphs from the GPU section thread suggest better perf on AMD in some cases.

2GB vram seems to be the absolute minimum though. 4GB for ultra @ 1080

Its exactly the same as FC3, i have run that game on 5 different GPU's including 2 Nvidia, the stuttering is identical on all of them. yet some say that game runs smooth, both AMD and Nvidia users.

Some people just aren't as sensitive to micro stutter as others, they don't see it.

Bad news if so, as I plan on upgrading to 970SLI fairly shortly.

In my testing with 670SLI:

@1440 I get the stuttering. Though I'm sure it's down to vram in my case (only 2GB). Like this I can't even play the game, even when I set everything to low. Fraps says 45-60fps but when I turn it stutters all over.

@1080, with textures on low and AA set to SMAA or off, I don't get the stuttering. I can set everything else to nv pre-set

I'll be miffed if this isn't sorted when I upgrade, but then that needs doing anyway.

Very true. I have not seen one video yet which is what i call smooth as butter.

I have got sli 970 and I am playing at 1440p.

If I set video to "Nvidia" I can not maintain a solid 60fps and get some stuttering. If I set it to Nvidia and turn AA off I do not get any stuttering or frame rate drops. I play it with Nvidia and msaa x2, this seems to be a good compromise.

thats all down to the recording software though mate. DXtory is having massive issues with recording these latest games, the record comes out really choppy. And I know Shadowplay has come under a bit of stick lately the way it really washes out the image. Can honestly say the stutter on mine when im playing and not recording is so minimal, not sure what else to say really. Gets it's one of those games that works on some setups, and different on others.

I've noticed a flash light comes on when you're in caves.... seems a bit silly to not be able to toggle it yourself.

Worrying then. Have you tried SMAA?

See this link for info Tweaking Guide

It may not be evident from this fullscreen comparison, but TXAA is vastly superior at edge anti-aliasing, even when compared against 8x MSAA. Similarly, SMAA outperforms all MSAA modes, but lacks the temporal anti-aliasing qualities of TXAA. For enlargements clearly showing edge anti-aliasing properties, look below.

According to the graph SMAA also gives better perf than MSAA

Am I being stupid, but is there a flash light/torch in this game?

At night time the game is unplayable.

From Steam Forums, a 'darkness' fix for SLI users:

Use Nvidia Inspector. Next to driver version, click on the settings button. Find Far Cry 4 on the drop down menu at the top. Change 'SLI Compatibility Bits (DX1x) from 0x080040F5 (Daylight, Monster Hunter Online Benchmark, Ryse: Son of Rome, Lichdom: Battlemage, Far Cry 4) to 0x081902F5 (Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Far Cry 3). Click in the top right to apply settings. Play Far Cry 4 with your SLI working and no stupid black shadows.

Thanks. I'll have to try that later

Has anyone done any of the missions in the Himalayas? I did one last night that nearly had me tearing my hair out!

There's this enemy helicopter that flies about and if it spots you you're as good as dead, plus there are loads of enemies on the ground that you have to try to sneak past or stealth kill. It took me a good 6 or 7 tries before I finally got past the worst bit at the bottom of the mountain.

I have ghosting issues with my 970 Sli using nvidia and SMAA.

Exactly the same here. Also have the darkness bug so having to play on single card for now.

Tried the fix mentioned earlier using Nvidia Inspector and it made it worse for me unfortunately. Had rampant flickering throughout so reset again. Back to square one I guess.

Still, it's running nicely on one card so I can't have too many complaints.

Having a few issues, not sure if anybody is experiencing the same? I have to click Ctrl Alt delete if I want to progress further with the game.:confused:

The game just hangs if I don't do that. Never ever experienced this.
