Farage has bank accounts closed

"its purely a commercial decision"

I thought Farage loved free market capitalism and thought it was being eroded by the EU?

If only there were some large organisation that we could join, that might help pass laws to reign in the worst habits of corporations....

I thought the EU now favoured suitcases instead of legitimate bank accounts for their cash?

Anyway, rioters appear to be burning down the banks of France and their "brothers" are at it in Brussels now.

It's very telling that you think 'free market capitalism' should mean that large key institutions should be able to act, often in concert with one another, to enact extra judicial sanctions on people's ability to fully interact in society for their otherwise legally held and expressed views and opinions and that this won't come around to bite you in the rear one-day.

England and the UK has a fairly good historical record in being one of the first nations to instigate new measures to improve the rights of humans. We never needed and should not need going forward a remote and far less accountable bureaucracy

But Farage is a big advocate for free market capatalism. Does he want to control the commerical decisions that banks can make? Sounds very EU red tape to me.

One of the motivations of Brexit is to reduce financial regulation. He exaggerated it like the attention seeker he is because all he has to say otherwise is “buy my gin!”, or “look at those boats”. Otherwise he’d be invoking…….the Ombustman!

As for human rights, pah, when has Farage campaigned on a human rights ticket? He’s the polar opposite.

I’m sure he’ll be running to the ECHR just like the government did :D

It was a commerical decision according to the bank. Everything else you have said is purely conjecture/made up in your head/out of the ass mouth of Farage.

Providing the individual isn't using the account for illegal activity which is already a government control. That they are managing the account above the required balance then the bank is making money from that customer so yes they should be required to provide that account service. Not to do so is the equivalent of allowing no blacks at this hotel or guest house. You also wouldn't expect someone to be denied an account with a water, energy, telephone or broadband company as they're basic human requirements.

Yes, a private bank account with Coutts is a basic human right :D

It says:

“He DOES admit to being a Politically Exposed Person (PEP), as defined by the Financial Action Task Force, an international body established in 1989 to set international standards for countering money laundering and terrorist financing. He should not be surprised, then, that as a result, his bank is obliged by UK law - the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017 - to carry out robust due diligence on him and his banking activities. From what Farage has said, it appears that the bank has done this due diligence and concluded that he represents a level of risk they cannot tolerate.”

That’s some Anti Growth Coalition Blob stuff right there

Depends where the cash has come from - have banking available makes it easier to trace and move and launder thus less detectable. When banking turns into a digital currency with a quantum security for each value then we may see it become more difficult and immutable traceability inbuilt will help, but in the end most large scale crime can afford to make that happen and even then fund a corrupt state to allow the cash into the system.

France have a different perspective in life, they're actually taught in school how to uphold their national freedoms. That includes protesting, and it's seen a going a little far but rioting is not viewed in the same way as here, meaning that it's quasi-expected and understood. France has a more integrated culture except for pockets in certain estates where there is resistance to becoming native French, which causes the French friction (going back to my point about national identity in schools). Lille and many of the larger built up cities have issues with this.

Same problem here, and virtually every country.

Is the problem - not naturalising or simply competition of jobs? Or is it more simply racism based on how someone looks or some other attribute such as the way they cut their hair or have tattoos?
