Fast Car + Good MPG = Myth?

I can't be doing with the hassle that comes with french cars though.

Silly things breaking, which mean you have to take the whole front of the car off or the wing.

Civic would be the best call, just not sure how well it would cope with the 50mph spells with added hills etc.

Do you really think an EP3 is going to struggle going up hills? :D

I know people joke about the torque but lol..

It would mean nocking it down a few gears to 5,000 rpm and then poor mpg!

Leon Cupra R?

Is there anything around for £5k thats fun to drive, 0-60 in <6.5 and a derv??

Not at all. Although there is the 150BHP lump in the Golf and Seat Cupra. Book time is 8 but you can get that down to low 7s with a remap.

I'd test drive a 172 FF. They do around 7 seconds to 60 and is great on fuel.

a r1 powered classic mini will produce 30mpg with abit of back lane blasting.

Oh and a 0-60 in under 5 seconds.

But like most people on here you wont get you probably wont be willing to get your hands dirty. So an elise would be a good bet or a kit car. the lighter the better.

Toyota celica 7th gen is pretty good one the fuel. I've got the 140bhp version and I get about 38 mpg. The 190bhp version uses a little more fuel, and is 0 to 60 in about 7 seconds. Vvtli is great fun too. You should be able to get the 190 for under 5k, but with higher mileage. But you can get the 140 for good prices.

Flicking through the auto trader on my lunch today, a car popped up that made me think "phwoar".

Impreza WRX - 2002 - £4,000

I want a special car as my next car, i've been waiting long enough for the "upgrade".

I have started a new route to work that still consists of the same crappy 50mph B road but a different route onto it.

24 miles each way.

The only thing that is putting me off these is the rep. I live in a nice area of town with smart cars in my street like but I think i'd always be paranoid of it going missing in the night.

Is this me being ridiculous or is it a high possibillity. Is it mainly WRX STi's that are crime targets??

What would a WRX's mpg be like? Over 25mpg?

Surely a hill at 50mph in 5th in an EP3 would be an epic fail?

Nope, not that bad TBH.

But it's more fun if you drop it down to 3rd and hammer the loud pedal.

My best ever from a run is 30mpg average. Not good TBH!

Elise springs to mind....

Speed Six engined TVRs are 25mpg or so on a motorway run, although that will definitely be the least of your concerns with them :p

I got a personal best of 35.75mpg out of my EP3 on Saturday, 80mph (4000-4200rpm) in 6th, Burnley to Oxford and back... I was quite impressed, makes up for the 7.3mpg i got out of it on my trackday.

What about a Focus? The one with the V5 engine, STI I think it's called? You often see them in that mad orange colour. I'm sure it wouldn't too bad cruising at 70 MPG wise...

Mines got 55k on it... Full service history and from what ive seen it will be good for another 50k without any issues. On the Roller it was still kicking out the full 202bhp just as it would have been the day it was new.

Here's my personal best
