Fast cars at 4k budget

The warm version of most cars will do 0-60 in that kind of time, I suggest just picking cars you like the look of first then looking at the bigger engined variants and comparing each against the others.

There are many, many good cars for £4k that will do 0-60 in just under 8 seconds

You could get a decent mk1 Leon Cupra R for £4k. Get one that has already been mapped and you're looking at 260bhp.

I had a look at the cupras at my price range I can only get pretty much high mileage/hammered ones...

Oh, just seen < 7.7s = fast.

7.7s 0-60 isn't fast. It's not even hot hatch fast

lol that AMG is cheap but lol it looks like a whale on the road

ST220 is great if your after a comfy, fast and good handling (for its size) car just get a 2003 onwards model (stronger 6 speed gear box). You havnt really covered what your after in a car though, is it purely straight line speed or do you want something thats going to be fun round the country roads...? because when your being thrown at cars that range from an ST220 to a Civic/Integra Type-R there is a world of difference!

I don’t do much country road driving so simply strait line speed something with a little grunt rather than high revving engine which you have to trash to get them singing...

I heard they drink more than a thirsty camel which I don’t really mind plus heard rumours they don’t start in cold

24-26mpg on an a/b/m road run.

~20mpg combined

No heavy town traffic though.

About 0.5L of oil every 1,000 miles.

Increased fuel/oil consumption is one of the signs that these engines are on their way out.

One with failing seals probably will struggle to start in the cold, yes.

Never had a single problem with mine, been using it as a daily over the winter.

There is a good buyers guide on the owners club forum, I used it when looking for mine.

When I was looking... my budget was £4k and it was between an RX8 or 330... at this money, the 330s are a shambles, unfortunately... the RX8 seemed un-beatable for the money.

It's impressive what you can get... I picked one up with loads of options (all, if I'm not mistaken), sat nav, bose sound system, 231bhp model, HIDs, 2004 model that had just been through a major service for £3k. Of course they're rear wheel drive and come with limited slip differentials as standard.

It needed a pair of front tyres, that was it... although I had wheels in motion fiddle with the geometry at the same time.

Extruded MX5 chassis, so the handling isn't too dissimilar from the mark 3 mx5... with a rather nice rotary engine, more options and more comfort. I took it to Snetterton at the beginning of December, handled itself better than I was expecting :)

id say this... personally.

(or similar, theres quite a few just under 4k on pistonheads)

Fantastic cars... have to be careful with the rear suspension on the cheapest of the cheap of these though. Probably have to sink a couple of grand in to that to get it reasonable again :(

I would already have one myself, if the insurance wasn't so ridiculous... cheapest for me is nearly £4k/year! I've only found one car more expensive to insure - an E39 M5

Ok thank you all for your suggestions I have really narrowed my search down I was stubborn in getting a 330ci lol but not now I think I narrowed it down to a Leon Cupra or Cupra R if I’m lucky, ST 220, Honda Civic EP3 and Mazda RX8
