My issues is that very very few of the suggestions are anywhere close to be described as "fast". Quicker than most metal you'll come across on a daily basis perhaps but they certainly aren't fast cars, not even for the budget.

They are what most people call fast. We all know what he means and its not an issue.

The arches are starting to go and at 350+ the gearbox is on borrowed time.

Personally I would look for the mintiest minty UK turbo I could find for about £3K and keep £1K back for repairs.

He sounds a bit young though and (perhaps this is unfair) fairly likely to bin a tubby on his first greasy day, I drove mine like a nun when it was raining or particularly cold - hence why I reckon the GT4 would be a better bet for him. Seems to want a newer and slightly slower car anyway

One biased vote for the CTR. Not much will keep up. Cheap, practical, reliable. 2years happy owning and cannot forsee me selling up unless job change requirements or I win the lottery.

RX8s are cheap now for a reason.

Id rather have a Accord Type-R over any Mondeo ST220. If you wanted something silly you could get a good 200SX for 4k with some mods. RWD, no driver aids with a fantastic revving turbo engine.
