Fast cars at 4k budget

I don’t do much country road driving so simply strait line speed something with a little grunt rather than high revving engine which you have to trash to get them singing...

definatly recomend taking out an ST220 for a test drive then. Have had mine for coming upto a year now actually. Decent engine (3.0 V6), sounds great, gives good ammount of power without needing to be thrashed, returns around 25mpg combined driving, or 30mpg on a motorway run. Comfy ride but very planted. Saying that, i am tempted to change to a Focus ST as after a bit more 'tunable' power... depends what you are satisfied with really.

Ok thank you all for your suggestions I have really narrowed my search down I was stubborn in getting a 330ci lol but not now I think I narrowed it down to a Leon Cupra or Cupra R if I’m lucky, ST 220, Honda Civic EP3 and Mazda RX8

If you weren't all the way up in Bradford, I'd have been happy to take you for a spin :)

Also worth considering a supercharged / turboed MX5 - you could get a nice one in your budget and it would be faster than anything mentioned in this thread and one of the most fun cars you can buy.

Nissan 200SX.

Spend 3k on one and the rest on mods to get more power and sort out the soft standard handling.

Alternatively just buy one thats already modded to stage1 spec (typically ~280bhp) with some chasis mods already done. Reasonably frugal car (I get 29mpg) that is quick, cruises nicely and the interior isn't awful :)

If running costs are not much of an issue I'd usually recommend a scoob in these threads but am currently pimping Audi so I will say S4. Standard as quick as a mapped scoob UK classic but not as raw and higher top end. Can be quite a beast with mods.

I got excited when I saw the thread title... Then I saw 'A4 S line' and 'Celica T-Sport' in the opening post :(.

Yeah not enough barge love in this thread. I was meaning to stick up a link to a BMW 750 for Lols but I'm on a phone and it's a pain in the bum. There's a truly horrendous one on autotrader full of blue neon with, apparently, double bullet proof glass :rolleyes::rolleyes: Thread's gone all sensible and helpful, though :(.

Renaultsport Megane 225? Would probably be a standard one, not a Trophy or an R26 as they command a bit more wedge but still good.

As has been mentioned, Cupra R
Accord Type R as well but watch for gearbox Syncro issues.

My issues is that very very few of the suggestions are anywhere close to be described as "fast". Quicker than most metal you'll come across on a daily basis perhaps but they certainly aren't fast cars, not even for the budget.

I understand the type of car the op is looking for but the thread title was misleading :(
