Fat shaming on a plane - who is in the wrong?

Privacy is more important than her feelings, unless he was saying that stuff to her face which he wasn't...

What about her privacy? If he's sending pictures without her permission, that removes her privacy. Removing his therefore seems reasonable.

This whole accepting fatness idea is just pushing us towards a worse obesity epidemic than we already have currently.
It isn't ok to be fat. Kids need to know this.
+1 the exploitational clothing adverts by + clothing companies need to acknowledge this (smoking adds had to acknowledge it was dangerous for your health)
also, some articles this week about clothing companies applying a disproportionate 'fat tax' - 'fat but fit' is now disproven

I am corrected: texts. But the general principle remains - if you can't mind your own business, why should your victim.

If you don't like comments about being a hideous meat mountain, don't be a hideous meat mountain? It's not like she can't help it. It's a series of (poor) lifestyle choices. Additionally if you don't like people commenting on you DON'T BE A MODEL. She puts herself in the public eye and then complains about the public commenting on her.

does taking a **** load of selfies count as modeling these days or has she received some kind of payment for what ever it is she does?

I find it maddening someone can be a model and put no effort in to it, being a lethargic layabout putting yourself in that state.
The insane effort fit people have to put in compared to that...

He seemed to handle it well and even asked her if she thought she was capable to help someone in an emergency. She didn't say yes, just said she worked out, was a model, and has loads of social media followers. Doesn't mean **** when you crash and need to assist your fellow passengers.

He did nothing wrong in my book.

I agree completely. The message should be that it's not ok to be overweight, it's not ok to be lazy and it's not ok to be a burden on the NHS in the future.

If she's so large she's spilling over her space into the space he's paid for... especially in something so cramped as a cattle class airplane seat that you don't have any real option to move... he has every right to be annoyed.

Venting to a friend is a good way to alleviate that frustration without putting it onto the person he's sitting next to...

Mate don't be denying yourself, you'd dive right in bruv.
Yeah but you better put a rope around your foot and tie the other end to tree just incase you start to drown!

My idea of a "plus size model" would be someone like Sophie Dhal (back in the day) or Kelly Brooke, a size 12/14 women with ample curves but not someone who has more rolls then Greggs.

Being fat is in the same grouping as being an alcoholic or a smoker.

The difference at the moment, society has laws that are designed to stop alcoholics and smokers affecting others. Bring on the flab encroachment laws, keep your rolls out of my personal space! :)

at first I thought he was probably being a bit of a ****, but hey it was a private message so 50/50 on the rudeness.

Then I googled her. Oh boy. When she said she works out 5 times a week I thought she can't be over the top plus size.

I mean jesus.

I don't think there's any risk of people being inspired by her and running to their nearest all you can eat buffet. I also doubt many obese people see her and think they don't need to change.

Yeah that comment was so ridiculous it was beyond belief... work out 5 times a week and still obese? something is very very wrong there.....

"work out" can mean any amount of exercise. If someone spends 2 minutes moving 1Kg weights a little bit 5 times a week and eats 4000 calories per day, they will be obese.

On the subject in general:

I don't care that she's obese. I don't care about her, so if she chooses to harm herself, reduce her quality of life and reduce the length of her life, I don't care. It's her business. It's personal.

I do care that she promotes obesity. That's political. She's choosing to harm other people and that's everyone's business. The pro-obesity lobby in general targets female people in particular, so they're sexist as well and that's more harm they do to everybody. The more they succeed, the greater the cost of healthcare and that's more harm they do to everybody. Even people who have resisted their propaganda ("plus size", "fat shaming", etc) and their bullying will still be harmed by that because of the resulting reduction in resources available for everything else (including other medical problems). They are simply bad people who harm others.

The fact that she invaded his privacy and used her media power to attack him goes on top of that, but it's hardly surprising from someone who has devoted their life to harming other people. His private rudeness (if he was rude - she's obviously not a reliable source of information) is trivial in comparison.

I wonder how she'd use the funeral of someone who died because she took up an emergency space and wasn't able to help in an emergency as pro-obesity propaganda.
