Faulty E6600

Lesson learnt the hardway here i think. :( Tbh with these ***** auctions you have very little comeback, for example whats to stop the seller saying it was working fine before you recieved item? Myself I only tend to trust well respected sellers with excellent history or even one with some evidence via track record of faulty returns been dealt with. ;)

I've used the ******* auction site fifty two times during the past three or so years and have a blue star for for passing the fifty positive feedbacks. I've returned fifty one positive feedbacks and left only one negative feedback for a time waster. In all but two of my transactions on the *******auction site I've been the customer rather than the seller.

I've managed to get quite a few very good bargains. I've never totted up the total of my spending on the *******auction site but overall I've been very happy to buy expensive items like rugs, a couple of watches and some furniture there.

I've read through this thread and for what it's worth I can't really see a seller knowingly selling a dud chip in a sealed retail box. If there is something dodgy and I repeat if there is something dodgy about the the transaction my suspicion would fall on the provenance of the chip. Was the chip stolen much less likely a forgery?

Using the ******auction site is in my experience worthwhile if you take the correct precautions, i.e.,use a credit card or PayPal, learn and observe the rules, and most of all, to quote an impeccable source to you believers, "Do unto others as you would be done to." :D

This was a sealed box brand new processor, bought second hand at (we presume) a considerable discount over new so the buyer was aware of the risk. In a second hand transaction like this you are paying less and there is more risk.

I think what has surprised me more than anything was Intel's reaction - a pretty abrupt - "We're not going to honour your warranty without proof of purchase". And an auction receipt wasn't good enough apparently. Very poor, especially as the CPUs have only been out since last July and every CPU is stamped with the week of manufacture so they can hardly say they don't know if it's in it's warranty period.
